Tell Me About Growing Opium

A friend was telling me about growing my own opium
I was wondering how different things were from growing pot, cause i already have a growbox setup for that.
Any help would be appreciated, i have no clue about this.

Apparently your grocery store has perfectly viable seed. In the spice aisle, McCormicks is the go-to brand. Also craft stores sell giant seedpods in the dried flower section.

Bulk Poppy seeds from Health Food Grocery's are NOT the same. I used to Randomly plant those in the 90's. They have very small seed pods.

You could probably still use your growbox, but there are a few things to understand about poppies first.

The light cycle is the opposite of MJ. You'll want to go short light cycle for veg then increase light cycle for flower.

Poppies don't like being transplanted either. Plan ahead. Plant them where you want them to grow.

Spacing between plants should be AT LEAST 8 inches apart or you'll get light and moisture problems.

Keep the room well ventilated and cool. Poppies are very leafy and there's lots of places for water to get trapped.

Soil should be well drained. They don't like drowning in water.

The "body" of the plant isn't necessarily huge but your flower/pod stems might get pretty tall.
