Default radishes in hydro?

I did some research and it seems radishes are about as fast maturing as you can get. I thought this makes them perfect for learning hydro. I'd like to try them in a dwc. Anybody ever tried a root veg in hydro? Links and book suggestions gladly accepted. Thanks.
