Question when and what can i plant to harvest in fall?
i am in south u.s. The lack of rain has been very hard on gardeners this year. i have planted several spring gardens but never a fall garden. what will be the veggies i can plant starting now to harvest bfore winter, and when is the best time to plant for the fall harvest. rain is finally coming on a regular basis and hopefully will continue. i had a great harvest of yukon golds and would like to plant taters again. will they have time to make? also very interested in peas and beans. any info appreciated.

south us is good for winter harvest. the main thing you realy need too know is when the first killing frosts appear.

found this site below that could be a wealth of infomation too you, also gives lists of plants and when too sow them. cloche coldframe and greenhouses also work down your neck of the woods.

thanks so much friend! that will get me going 4 sure. we normally dont c frost until late november but its been a strange year. got a feeling it will hit a bit earlier. im gonna try to get some purple hulls and crowders started as soon as the rain stops. hating not already having the freezer full already. my crowders didnt make at all first round. lack of rain and to much heat i guess. can hardly even find any to buy. feeling good about the fall harvest though. thanks again 4 the great link.

You could probably grow any of the following...peas, garden beans, broccoli, lettuce, most greens & herbs do well during the fall also. Look up a gardening forum in your area to see what others are successfully growing near you for ideas. I've learned from gardening so far that it seems the heat & sun of summer is only very important to plants that bear large fruits such as tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelons, etc.
