but anyways... Im going organic with this garden due to lack of funds (which isn't really that big of a deal to me), so the box is almost full.... but if the seeds I planted soon don't sprout, Im going to have to go buy some vegetable plants from the store, so wish me luck, .

Sounds like your in for a fun season, .....

I got some sprouts.... tomato and a couple other things.... I filled up the box 3/4 of the way, then used 1/4 of the dirt else where.... I have some good soil mix (6 cu ft) and additional perlite (2 cu ft) to add to the local soil in the box. I will add sift and mix over the next week, and transplant my seedlings a couple days after that. Im sure I will get something out of it.... I almost already have two handfulls of strawberries to munch on from out strawberry plant thats in a 1 gal. pot..... Im very pleased with all this,

hi dragon,

had a peek at your topic and notice the short of cash part. i myself am short of cash.

i have been trawling the local cheap shops, these ones that sell everything for one uk pound, it was great i found in one shop a whole selection of veg seeds starting at 50 pence all way upto one pound a packet.
In same store i found growbags at one english pound a bag. i purchase six and shall use them too improve my english drybasin soil lol.

i also found a couple more gardeners/allotment owners and have built up a couple of freinds that help me with cuttings and plants they have thinned out.

Carboot sales/yard sales are awesome places too for a bargain or two.

your the smaller raised bed could hold a good crop of potatos. my grobag thread has instructions on a 100lb yield potato box.

sounds very interesting.... we've got thousands of potatoes spread all over the lower hillside... I have actually been considering partitioning the larger raised bed, and putting my two mother pot plants in there....... an issue I am rather stuck on..... as my veggie sprouts are going to need a home next week...... but so do the mommas.....

dragon what about square foot growing. that big raised bed would work perfect, then put maybe one mom plant in the smaller raised bed close too outhouse, that leaves only one mom too find a spot for and the veggies have the large raised bed.

for those that havent heard of squarefoot gardening heres a quick explanation.

Square Foot Gardening
is based on the idea of using small raised beds that are low maintenance to grow vegetables and flowers is a small space. The basic unit of planting in the square foot (30cm) with a basic raised bed of 4ft * 4ft (1.2m * 1.2m). These are suitable for smaller gardens or even patios, for those with a slightly larger garden 8ft * 4ft (2.4m * 1.2m) raised beds may be suitable.

The premise is even a 4ft * 4ft raised bed can provide a useful crop of fresh vegetables during the year and as your experience grows you can add more raised beds and grow more vegetables.

soil, root space all that would be good..... its the lighting that I am worried about in that spot...... I think I am going to put mommas in the raised beds
