So, it's soil and manure in a bag, with the mushroom cultures already in it? Or do you need to supply the spores?

So when you want to use these, you just open the tape and put in the light, or is there more to it than this?

Just asking, I don't know shit about shrooms.

I also have all of the ingredients in my house, along with a pressure cooker, so I don't see why I wouldn't be able to make them myself ........

No, the main chemical you speak of is psilocybe which is produced in the MYC and mushroom body itself.

As for the bags, yes they are basically a grow substrate thrown into a bag and then sealed to create a sterile bio-dome setup that keeps humidity high. Decent deal I suppose but certainly not anything amazing to be honest so you won't be losing much. Besides how easy it is to make your own and how much cheaper, other vendors can be found to sell an equal product for about an equal price.

As for their workings. As said, it's basically a bag has a hole cut in it a few inches up and over that hole is usually placed something like Tyvek. The Tyvek or other filter works to allow fresh air exchange while blocking mold spores from entering the bag. The bag is then filled with something such as horse manure, and water then sealed. You then inject spores into the bag either by way of a Liquid Culture, Grain to Grain, or a Spore syringe. (all of which are sold separitly. If they were included togather the product would be illegal as spores are only legal in the USA if they are for microscope research not growing.) The spores, or MYC colonize the bag in a dark space for about a month. The bag is then shown to a small amount of light each day and possibly cold shocked which causes fruits to start growing. (couple hours is fine as mushrooms don't actually require light)

I've been growing boomers for a bit and it really is quite simple. It take a clean, calm, controlable enviroment and they will do the work themselves!! I dont use the bags myself but people seem to like them. Buy the book Mushroom Cultivator by Paul Stamets, and about $100 bucks and your on your way to alot more product then any bag can produce! I allways use 10gal. aquariums or those clear plastic storage bins to set up a controlled enviroment but I know people that have done it in a plant tray on top of thier TV with the most screwed up set up you could imagine and got enough for 3 or 4 people to fly to outter space!! The key is you must have sterile spores and inccubate them correctly, once you get the white fluffy(myceliem) your off to the races!! Let me know what your total harvest is if you try the bags? Interesting item, I might actually purchase it if it were not for the vermiculite. I don't want asbestos in my shrooms.

Very common mith. There is no asbestos in vermiculite. That was from an isolated incident at a particular mine a long time ago.

And on another note, mushrooms dont have pick up any chemicals like asbestos from the substrate. The mycellium DOES NOT act like the roots of the mushroom.
