Definately root space my man. I got all kinda of lettuce and radishes and stuff growing and the roots grow insane man. Id say transplant them into 3-5 gallon pots and water em. They should bounce back soon.

Take note of the root ball as your transplanting them, you will see what i mean

I agree with the tranplant idea, you need space for roots, maybe too heavy on the nutrients. A few leaves looked burned, though I am not sure how your are feeding it.

I also agree, tomatoes roots start to take off around 1 month old and they want to go deep and spread out. A 16 oz. plastic cup is tiny!!!

Transplant them, trim the dead leaves and they should be good.

I would say you have a couple of issues. First if you're asking if you have enough root space you don't. Tomatoes have gigantic root systems they can almost never have too much space. Second looking at your leaves you may have some kind of other issue with the plant. I can't tell you what it could be but there are tons of websites that have info. on that kind of stuff with pictures. Just type in tomato plant problems in your search engine & you'll be on your way.

those pots are killing the plant i am afraid too say.

get huge pots plant up your poorly plant and water. tomato plants have two types of root deep and shallow and require large watering cycles.

as plant starts climbing start nipping out the new growth coming from between the main stem and leaf stem. this will force plant too grow higher and put energy into this and its stem. once at hight you want nip out the top.

my fave too grow are called moneymakers, these are popular tomatos in uk gardens, nice yields and huge plants. my MM's are doing realy well in a growbag i water when bag requires and feed every two weeks with mircale grow granual feed. npk rate something like 28-8-24 they are loving it and growing like wildfire.

With one as bad rootbound as that, it will start flowering soon. Just pinch your flowers off until it's big enough for you. Tomato plants flower because they have excess sugar to ditch and have no other way of getting rid of it, it has nothing to do with a light cycle/time of year etc.

Too much moisture, not enough nitrogen and growth would increase with more root space so yes, they definately need a bigger pot.. I grow 100 tomato plants from seed each year and keep them in quart sized pots for quite awhile, just have to make sure they are getting enough light, nutirents and containers need holes in the bottom for soil to drain. I report in a 50/50 organic soil, vermiculite mixture to allow for easier root expansion. Get that poor little mater pkant outside where it can thrive! If it is an indeterminate variety, don't forget to cage or stake it.
