Soil needs to be rich in nutrients and well drained. Moistness is critical right now: Too much water will smother the roots, but make sure the soil doesn't dry out, especially when they are young and weak. When plants are well established, Light should be as much as MJ if possible, otherwise growth will be slow and fruiting will be weak. So you should have direct sunlight for the majority of the day. I haven't had much expierence with store bought nutes. I like to use cow manure. I get it from my grandfather's farm. I also like bat guano. Goodluck.

For both toms and cucum i use 50/50 coir and vermiculite, water with only rain water - direct to the 'water feeding roots' (bottom) and use only home made fert - sheep manure soaked in rain water - to the 'feeding roots ' (top) gonna try the fertilizer with my Low Ryders this year and see how things go.
