I tried growing tomatoes twice in Hydro, and failed. You have to be able to polinate the flowers to get tomatoes.

You can pollinate the flowers yourself but it's harder to do tomatoes than a lot of other plants 'cause of the way the flowers are shaped. Just rub your finger on all the flowers once a day firmly but not so much that you heavily damage the flower. Just so long as it stays on and the pistil is still there it should be fine. Do this daily 'cause you probably won't succeed on the first try. You won't really see pollen from tomato flowers but it's there.

If you are growing tomatoes outside, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Try to keep the vines off the ground though, if they sit on soil too long, they'll take root.

I'm going to try super cropping with some tomatoes this year, why not, do one plant, just to see how it goes.

This past fall I put some tomatoes in the ground late in the season, purely to find out how rich my soil was. It was too late in the season to fruit. Anyway, On one of them I decided to tie down some of the branches (touching up on my MJ techniques). It definately made it bushier and it encouraged new growth in the middle. Some of the leaves on the tied down stems didn't know what to do. One great advantage to northern growers is that it seemed to help keep it from freezing as much as the other plants I had near it (I assume from ground warmth being released as it got cold at night). In the end it took up alot of room, but I don't know if it benefits/hinders the amount or size of fruit compared to traditional methods (like i said it was too late in season). And like misshestermoffitt said, keep the vines off the ground and also the fruit, because it can also rot easier. Try it, new ways to grow are fun.

I started applying techniques I learned here and grew some real monsters outdoors last year. I had one plant tht was 6' wide by the end of the season. I got 4 times the tomatos that I have ever gotten. Less plants & more fruit. All my neighboors were asking what I was feeding them. I told them Miracle grow, but it was really Flora Nova from General Hydroponics. I cannot wait for this year :}
