Has anyone ever grown a coffee plant before??? Looking for advice.I just bought a one year old arabian coffee plant from Exotic Angle Plants. I googled it up and it says it takes at least two years before it will ever make beans but it will make fragrant flowers every season till then. The foliage is pretty. Really green and shiny w/ broad leaves.
The pot I bought was tiny (<1qt) and it had four little 8" plants in it. I was hoping to separate the plants but the root ball was so entangled that I would have just killed them all trying. So I repotted the clump into a 4 qt. pot of organic soil mix. The tag that came with them gives the following specs: Temp. 65-80 Water. medium Light. High Light, INDIRECT ONLY Growth rate. medium The part that has me confused is the lighting needs. It says high light but no direct sunlight, so do you think it will do well under like 110Ws CPF or will that be too much light. Right now it is getting no light at all really because it did not take to the transplant well. It wilted a lot and most of the bottom leaves turned brown and fell off. Its been about a 12 days since the transplant and all four plants in the cluster are showing a good amount of new growth but its looking a bit leggy like it stretching for light so should I through it under the floros. WTF is High, indirect light???

It depends on who you talk too, some say lots of direct sunlight others say fitered sunlight.Put your plant under your light and see how it respondes. Here is a link.

Thnx for the link and advice. They just went under the floros and if they handle it really well I might even put them outside this spring. That is until it gets like 90-100 deg in early summer. I will taka them in before that.
I love growing differnt plants. I've got Black Turkish tobacco seeds coming this week

We used to grow a few different plants also. When we had the farm we had a 75x150 garden spot, not including the almost 200 house plants. We grew green tea for over 5 years and enjoyed our homegrown tea.Now we live in a area with only rocks and clay,it sucks. We miss our garden terribly.OPH

I feel you about the soil man. I move to the SE from the mid-west. I can grow squat in this red clay crap. I always end up digging it out and and adding a lot of store bought soil/conditioners and tons of compost.
I do miss the rich black earth of the ohio river vally.

Yeah, It will take forever to get beans. Also It says I will probably only get a couple pounds a year once its mature. I just like to grow things that I never have before. I thought the foliage was stunning it supposedly makes flowers every season. I don't even really drink coffee.
Thanks for the replies.

Thanks again for the tip old pothead. All three little plants are reaching and bending for the light very enthusiastically. I will definitely try them in some direct, morning sun in about a week.
