Default Bamboo
I have used bamboo as camoflauge in the past for outdoor grows with great success and am going to again next season. The only problem is, since i change sites every other year, my new site does't have any in the area to transplant.

My question is, can bamboo be cloned the same way as MJ?

And whats the growth rate of bamboo, in comparison to MJ?

+rep for good answers

no you can only propagate by root division, that is, dig up a clump and split up the root ball.
It will take at least a year then too regrow roots and then new shoots. I hung out with a grower who advised me the best time to do this as soon as the new shoots pop up at the base.
Some strains grow faster than others, the ornamental fishing pole one is quite slow to recover. You could be looking at years before it will make a big plant.

Little late, but for anyone who stumbles upon this later, Yes it is possible to clone bamboo in the same way. I've done it before, and i actually have one in a homemade bubble cloner that just sprouted some roots (took 3 weeks). Idk if this is true for every type of bamboo, but i'm guessing if it's possible for one type probably possible for most, just i'd imagine some will take longer to root than others. But yeah bamboo grow rediculously slow.

Lol, bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant on the face of the earth. It can grow up to 24 inches a day.

Look into Pennesetum grass. it gets very tall and has a stem diameter about the size of one of your fingers. Mine is at least 15 ft tall. fast grower...most grass is.

i got some fresh bamboo cuttings from the asian store a couple years ago and stuck in a vase filled with water. About 3 weeks later it started popping roots. You can then cut off the top, put that in water, etc. etc. Its gotta be the most hardy plant on Earth.
