Default New Strain of Indoor Bean Plant: Tricotylidonous
So I saw this part of the forum and I couldnt have been more surprised to see that there is a place for gardening non-weed. I actually started growing indoors years ago with bean plants and stumbled upon a pretty cool little trait that I have been in the process of tracking down since: a mutation in which the plant itself is germinated with three (its usually two) cotylidons (1st set of leaves). From there it grows bushy with a thick stem and up to maybe about a foot in height max. Instead of growing leaves in groups of two, it grows in groups of three which provide it with much better ability to capture sun at all times of the day or from many angles indoors. Ideal for indoor growing and since it has more nodes it produces more crop.

This mutations happens about 1 out of every 100 pinto plants (126 for it to "pop up" this time) and I finally have isolated the gene so hopefully I will be able to continue on the line. Anyway, I thought it was cool.

It's def a cool trait to see, in cannabis though it usually means lower quality and less yields. I have looked into this cause I have a mutation that produces not 3 leaves per node, but 3 growth tips per node. I am documenting it well and hopefully it wont hurt the yield/potency like the tri-petel plants do. Does it have and negative affects in the beans??

As far as I know... no. It is actually beginning to grow beans sooner than any of my other plants, which is cool considering I planted it in the last wave of the 126. It also has a thicker stem.

Interestingly enough, with the 125 pinto plants that I keep in a seperate room (dont want cross pollination), they can be used fairly accurate as subjects to test the effects of different chemicals on sensimilla. They grow similarly and enjoy a similar level of nutes and acidity. So right now, I get to test over 50 combinations of nutes to try and find out what effects different foliar sprays and soil treatments will have.

I speculate from this that your plant may grow similarly. Hopefully it is the kind of triat that passes on. Has it grown like this since its "birth"?

It has kept up the trait in the same branch since it's birth and has also managed to top itself and shoot into 2 branches with the same trait. Though I have been waiting for some side shoots to do the same with no success.

Sounds like you have a good chance of passing it on then! Good luck

3 growth tips as opposed to 2 at every node, then, on it's own tops itself & cont. with the trait on both sides. Enjoy.

Looks sweet dude! Let me know if the trait helps out. This is exactly what my bean plant does. BTW... it is yeilding at least 1/3 more beans and flowers than the other bean plants. Hands down.
