Hey Everyone,

After much trouble with germination with some help from a friend got some seeds to germinate. Its been about 3 1/2 weeks and I wanted to show my progress and get any comments or suggestions. I think I dealt with a mag def (praying, some spotting) and did the whole epsom salt spray bottle trick with success so far. Also I have 3 plants in different stages of growth.. One really took off, the other two are lagging. I still have only given a 1/4 dose of nutes.. I plan on 50% nutes tommorow and my first full res change. Ph is a steady 6.0. Temps at 80.

Hello everyone. New to the boards. I'm kind of in an odd situation. I have a friend who received his green card mid-summer. Due to mobility problems he can't grow himself. His sister had started a "system" for growing for him, but the plants suffered. A month ago I showed him some polaroids of some plants I'd grown for fun outdoors. Well, now I'm in charge. I had never done any hydro, so I've been in hyper-learn mode ever since. Everything is going good now. The water chemistry is finally up to par and stable and new growth has been phenomenal.

Now I'm debating on a cycle system to go with. I know there are several things that need to change(mh to hps, etc.), but those will change as funds become available. First, I'll give you the basic setup as of now.

General Hydroponics 10 bucket DTW Bubble-Bucket System (Split into two systems, veg and bloom)
General Hydroponics Lucas Formula
4'x8'x8' Mylar Tent (for blooming)
4 - 150 watt MH 6500K
Various 4' T8 fl

Plants:
Ready to Bloom-
3 - Permafrost
1 - White Russian
1 - Original OG Kush
Vegging-
3 - White Rhino
2 - Permafrost
1 - White Russian
1 - Purple Nepal Hash

I'm looking at getting a continuous cycle going. What is the best way to get the most out of a legal maximum of 15 plants. I see people who do two groups, taking clones off the adults that are going into bloom for the next cycle, harvesting about every 9 weeks depending on strain. I also see people who do three groups, mothers, vegging, and bloom, who also harvest every 9 weeks or so.

I guess my question is this, is it better to reduce the number of plants in production by having three or more mother plants, or to have all plants in production and clone off of adult clones generation after generation? I'm worried about weakening the strains by cloning off of clones over and over. Or is there even a better cycle system?

I'm sorry if any of this is confusing, or if this post is in the wrong area. Any response is appreciated. I'll post some pics a little latter.

Something funny happened last night. I have a five gallon dwc with auto road runner in it. i have been using the lucas 8 and 16 for flower with some big bud. I have had awesome results. Last night I did a res change and used GH nute calculator. I added 10 ml of micro and 20 ml of bloom. The next mornig I am looking at the greenest she has been in a few weeks! Startling. Temps are low but the lights are on, not below 70 for sure. I know that the N is prob too high in flower if this happened. Funny with no grow I figured this would not happen, yes, I did know that micro has a lot of N at over 10 ml a gallon. So score one for lucas, or score one for gh, I am gonna let it run some more. Then res change. Any thoiught. I got a few weeks left I really should switch to ripen soon. The plant has made a remarkable recovery since ozone hit her leaves. She will yeild some afterall. Maybe this is enough N to get her thru flower, maybe this is not. Many say the leaves should die, some say they should be fed. THis could make flushing a prob. I dont want N trapped in those leaves. I dont want to lose the road runner smell in cure! or bad meds to smoke. I will watch. It was weird to be struck with so much greener leaves, all I usually see is bigger buds. No pics, I cant find the camera right now.

Here's an easy way to drain your tub/rez for those weekly nute changes.

Add a 1/2" "T" to the water pump discharge. From the "T", run the 1/2" tubing to the distribution hub and then from the other side of the "T", run the 1/2" tubing through a hole as close to the top of the tub/rez as possible. With the 1/2" tubing sticking out the top side of the tub/rez, connect a 1/2" ball valve (with 1/2" nipples of both side of the ball valve) to the 1/2" tubing. Then connect a lenght of 1/2" tubing to the disharge side of the ball valve. This will allow you to fill one gallon jugs via the tubs water pump.

So you now can drain your tub/rez without even lifting the lid to the tub/rez.

I have been reading here and on other forums about how great cfls are. So I went out and looked at the usual places..and purchased what I "thought " were 100 watt 6500k cfls! after niticing that the plants weren't growing as fast as I'd heard ( I'm using a sh 6 pot hydro ponic set up) So I started doubting the bulbs as being what they said. I found that in smaller writing that they were 26 watt bulbs! So where do we get these much larger and more effecient bulbs? and do you need special plugs etc? I may have to chance the heat and go to my 400w hps. Thanks for any info on these lights, will the ones I'm using now hinder the groth and should I look for the other type cfls? Thanks again all.

I would like to harvest say 3-6 preferably 6 plants every 2-4 weeks is there a way to do this consistantly without goin over my 18/6limit? I am planning on using individual dwc buckets in the flower tent but I cannot seem to find the ones I really want anywhere. I would like to use 10gallon buckets but itd be awesome if they were square. So if anyones got a link to square buckets +rep. Sorry for the rant but basically I need an 18 site or even just 12 site cause 6 should always be rooting with 12 vegging idk see I need help I can't even fathom the idea when I start thinkin of numbers my mind goes blank

First time DWC grower.

My Setup:

small closet

3x3x7

10 gallon res
2 10 inch airstones
1 Walmart issue dual output air pump
4 42 watt cfl
4 26 watt cfl
too early for nutes.

Unknown seeds from bags of good stuff bought in the past.

Started out with 6 seeds, germed them in a paper towel on a plate atop my DVR for heat.

Suprisingly all 6 germinated. Placed them all into rockwool cubes wet them and waited.

On 11.11.09 4 out of 6 had sprouted out of the cubes. a day or two later, trying to help a seedling stand up I broke it, and two others just didnt make it. So now im down to 3. Although the one I broke does not appear to be dead or growing, it looks like a little white piece of root about an inch long. Its just the taproot.
(not expecting anything to happen from that one, but until it looks brown or dead ill keep watering it.)

Currently Each of the 3 girls* in the res all have roots an inch or two coming out of the bottom of the cubes.

My only question right now is:

How wet the rockwool cubes need to be at any given time.

The 2 air stones I have produce a good bit of bubbles in the res, the top of the water line there are bubbles and water splashing all over the bottoms of the cup. I know that is not a problem but Its so much that the cubes remain very wet.
Is that ok?

These are 7 days old from being put in the res, 10 from germination.

pic 1 and 2 - something wrong with this one. I think she has downs, but she will be ok!

pic 3 and 4 are of the the other 2

will take any questions comments or suggestions.

answers to my questions appreciated.

more pics to come.

well I'm about to add a gallon of water to my resv, so my question is this. I'm using general hydros flora grow 3 part system. the plant's went into the dwc system on the 8th.
do i mix the new gallon my the measurements for a gallon on the bottle? or less? if i do ill be mixing by the veg & growth stage, that it 2 tsp micro, 3 bloom and 3 grow i think. am i right on this? the plants are also starting to get the gold color on the new growth from the middle, and just a bit out from the middle, not bad but i can tell its there.
