This baffles me. You hear so many people today talk about the ancients with such high esteem, don't get me wrong, they hold their share of credit for innovation, but for fucks sake, why do so may people think they had all the answers? The ancients barely knew shit of the modern world, and couldn't predict what was to come. Modern man has a much better grasp on the world than the ancients did. Aztecs, Incas, stfu, do you know any Aztec or Incan people? I wonder why...

Recommended Literary Philosophy for Children

I've longed to expose children to philosophy, especially my own, but I'm finding there are very few books that are suitable for children. Therefore, I am hoping to create a few of my own. I'm currently working on adapting Voltaire's Micromega for a much younger audience. I am hoping to get some other suggestions for philosophers, books, etc that would be suitable for children if simplified a bit. Any suggestions? I'm thinking Plato and Nietzsche might be a good starting place because of the style of writing. Spinoza, Wittgenstein and Hegel are out, obviously.

As far as other stories go, it might be possible to adapt Homer, Dostoevsky and some of the Vedas to name a few.

The "alien" I saw was a being wearing an invisibility suit. The ~8 UFOs were just that- Unidentified Flying Objects because I just dont know what they were besides blue flashing lights in the sky. And the signs in the clouds might have been from aliens too! Maybe they like Me?

What can we conclude about aliens and whats your speculations?

Do you believe "they" are friendly or no? And why?

What do you think they have done to us and what do they want from us?

This thread will be meant for questionable examples of right or wrong, where you think to yourself about the bad guy "shit, that guy might be right! I'd of done the same thing..".

Fiction or non fiction, it doesn't matter, when have you felt remorse or empathy for the "bad guy"? Why did you feel he was right in his plight?

My first example comes from the movie Unforgiven, starring Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman

Eastwoods character, William 'Will' Munny, is broke with a failing farm with two kids to feed. Out of the blue, a young man the Schofield kid offers him an opportunity to earn some money by killing a couple outlaws in the town. Now, is it wrong to kill the two outlaws, men who are well known by local law officials to have committed crimes, perhaps even murdering other innocent people, to feed your own family? Two innocent themselves kids, (Munny is widowed by the way, so there is no wife to help pick up the slack), is it wrong?

What say you?

An All Powerful Being

All powerful, meaning always perfect, perfect meaning the best, nothing better.

Wouldn't you expect an all powerful being who is always perfect to devise a system of belief based on an always perfect set of standards?

An all powerful being. Think about what that would take.. Always right, always just, always perfect. No matter what logical hypothetical you could come up with, he's always got an answer, and it's always the right answer, no matter what. Whatever it is, if it seems inconsistent, you were wrong.

.. would an all powerful being support slavery? Genocide? Disease? Epidemics?

.. would an all powerful being allow global catastrophic events? World war? Poverty?

If such a being exists, why do those things also exist? What answer does organized religion provide?

How do i get into heaven? Which sins will condemn me to hell?

Or sins require atonement, a price we have to pay to be made right with a Holy and perfect God.

The only way to be made right with God and gain entrance onto heaven is through belief in God's Son Jesus Christ.

So now that Jesus has been sacrificed for our sins through believing in Him we can be made right with God and enter into God's Kingdom of Heaven.

There are sins we can commit to condemn us to hell and I will list them.

If we commit these sins and don't stop committing them we will end up in hell.
