I know in general copper chiller coils are bad for hydro, caus they leak copper into the nutrients, but what would you think of Stainless Steel? Would this be safe to use in hydronopics without causing toxitiy issues?

So I have decided to start my own Hydroponics grow.( ebb and flow). After a few days of lurking this forum and doing some research I almost have everything together. However I still have some questions.

1.)How high should my drain pipe sit? When the pump is running, how much of the pots(roots) should be submerged in solution?

2.)Im not sure if my pump is powerful enough. Its a 60GPH. How fast should my tray fill up to the point its draining through the pipe?

3.)What medium should I use? Perlite? Rockwall? A combination?

4.) Iv heard that 6 times a day for 15 minutes is a good time to shoot for, is this true?

Thanks for the help!!

Hello,

One of my girls in my Veg room is showing some problems. Leaves are developing white spots on them. In fact, the spots are becoming so dense that the leaf is starting to look white...

My pH is at 5.4 and I use general hydroponics nutes with Lucas Formula. I have one other girl next to this one in the Veg room, and she looks ok, and is not exhibiting this problem.

Has anyone else out there come across this issue?

One point to make: I wasn't always using Lucas Formula on this plant. So she may be showing signs of a problem from an earlier nutrient experiment.

Thanks.

PS EDIT: By the way, I've checked them closely for bugs, and do not see any at all. Plus, bugs would infest the other plant, and she's healthy. The white is almost like a fine mist across the leaves...And really at first, I thought it was dust.... Just wanted to add this comment before people starting saying bug infestation.

Im just starting a small closet op, nothing over 6 flowering at a time.

Im debating on whether i should build my own hydroponic setup, cause it would save me money(I think). But i dont have any experience with making one, and would need some help, and ideas.

But ive been looking around, and the only "Ready to Go" hydro systems that are in my price range is the "Emily's Garden Hydroponic System" http://www.hydroponics.net/i/290053

I dont know if this is a decent setup or not, but it has the potential for 6 girls, but i think that limited space might be an issue....

Ill be in a 4x2ft and 6ft tall closet

3-4 bloomin at a time.
I need some help guys!!!:blsmoke:

I had a big problem on the 2nd one because I woke up and all the leaves were drooping and touching the ground so I had to trim them and I think it is recovering well.

Let me know what you guys think I should do now in terms of trimming or adjusting water pH.

by the way, I decided to give them 24hrs of light with constantly flowing water and they both seem to be rather happy and have been growing faster than before when I had 18hrs light and 6 15min feedings.

Any ideas on how well this might work?

I'm planning on putting a pump down in a rubbermaid-type storage box with a snap on lid (finding one that pops on relatively tight).

The water level will be about 8" deep..

I'm planning on rigging up a sprinkler system along the edge, as well as down the middle (so the middle sprays towards the edges, and the edges spray towards the middle)

I figure I'd give the roots about 12-24" of air, and then 8-12" deep water under that.

Does anyone think this combo system would work very good? I think it would be cheap to construct and you wouldn't have to worry about leaks..and as far as spray nozzles that dong clog I think I found some at home depot that spray 180 degrees, by spraying a thicker jet of water straight up which hits a 'deflector' which directs it into a spray, kinda like this (the :'s are raindrops, the thing in the mid is the sprinkler with a jet and the ( is the 'deflector')

Hey guys,

Hey guys,

I'm finally ready to start my 1000w grow...and after months of research and slowly gathering info and equipment...I have a minor issue.

I am using a General Hydroponics Rainforest hydroponic system(6 sites with vortex sprayer). The system has 6'' baskets that have cocotek liners, which hold hydroton pebbles.

My seeds are fully germinated (all from Greenhouse Seeds Via Attitude)...and rockwool has been sitting in CLEAN, purified water for 36 hours. My plan is to put my germinated seeds IN the rockwool...then place the rockwool into the Hydroton where it will get water through the sprayer hitting the bottom of the basket.

My problem is this...

I have set everything up..and am doing a dry run without the rockwool & seeds. After the system has been running for ONE FULL HOUR...the hydroton is not wet at all. When I remove the basket from the system...it is VERY wet and dripping...but the water does not seem to be penetrating the COCOTEK LINER (used to keep the medium from falling in to the res). Should I remove the cocotek liners? Should the system be left on longer to let the water penetrate the coctek linrer? Should I only use a little bit of hydroton and have the rockwool towards the bottom of the basket where it is more likely to get wet?

The rez has exactrly 13 gallons of water (as per the instructions). The sprayer IS working.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated guys! :) Thanks

I got a rooted clone and dropped it in a bubbler. The clone when I got it looked very healthy. The roots have now entered the water in the past 24 hours. When I got the clone it had a big fan leaf near the bottom of the clone that was somewhat yellow and dried out. The stem was also purple but this may be the strain. I figured the yellow on that bottom leaf was because it was using energy from that leaf to grow. Since putting in the bucket the leafs have drooped and they are somewhat yellow/loosing green. I was thinking of just letting it ride for a bit and see if since the roots entered the water if it would pick back up. How long after the roots hit the water should I start seeing signs of recovery in the plant? My ph is around 6 and I am using the General Hydro Lucas formula at half strength. I have a few questions about maintenance as well. Is it ok for the rockwool plug to be saturated or should I allow it to dry out? Do you guys think I should change the water completely to see if I can correct the issue? I was thinking since the clone was so well rooted when I put it in the bucket that it was nutrient deficient and that was where the yellowing and drooping came from, but the roots have been growing like crazy and since hitting the water about a day ago I haven't seen any improvment. I am thinking of giving it another 24 hours and if no signs of recovery dumping and refilling the res. My temps are around 75, 400 watt mh. thanks for any insight or info. :blsmoke:

I have read rather mixed reviews about if Coir is allowed into a recirculating system.

Any personal opinions on this? I suppose if I wrapped my pump in a micron netting this would solve the problem of any random 'husks' getting loose.

I have 2 ak mothers and they each have prolly 12 clones on each. I have alot of bills coming up so i dont have the money to do my tent and aero set up right now. I can however throw a little bit of money to a small bubbler system in a night stand or something of that sort. I really just need to know about the cloning and growing in water. When to start nutes or how long can they grow in plain water.

also anyone know of a place i could get nutes in tenn?
