Hi Guys, I just recently started my first Vert grow but I can't seem to get the plants to stop drooping and twisting once the bare bulb is directly head on with the plants. It only doesn't droop when the light is directly over head. My question is, if I keep it overhead, sorta like what i've seen people do with tree grows, will it be just as affective as hanging it directly level with the plants? In my opinion, hanging overhead seems like it defeats the purpose of a vertical grow since the lights aren't being directly absorbed by the plants. See below for my amateur drawing..

ok so i've done a couple vert grows so far, 600w in cool tube. i've noticed that the cool tube restricts the light alot ( esp bc the 600w hps is so short). it seems obvious that the bulb would cover a bigger arc if i got rid of the tube. the reason i havnt is that i am concerned about the possibility of fire if the bulb breaks when im not home. so here's my question- how hot does the inside of the bulb get and is the possibility of a fire realistic, or are most fires caused by ppl overloading circuits? i know the bulb can be kept reasonably cool with a floor fan. however, if the bulb fails catastrophically (for whatever reason), should i be concerned about where the pieces could land?

Hi: All :lol::blsmoke:
After years of messin around with mylar sheeting and making poor attempts at DIY grow tents
I finally got me a proper grow tent its a Grow Cube(90*90*180cm) there is a slight bit of light spitting out here and there seams and zippier area but I think in the dark its dark most important eh!!!
I have been flowering 2xblue mystic for the last 3 weeks under high power cfls which for cfls the girls arent bad at all; standing 16ins tall at that in a closet but when l started this grow l really wanted to go hps and the closet was way to small.
So l got me a tent and have decided to go vertical bare bulb hope l will get a good end result
So set-up 4inch exhaust fan with carbon filter some 4inch alu.. ducting at bottom of tent for air in - works very well to
My 400 watter hanging from the centure and a 9inch fan blowen cool air on it
My temps are ok 79`F lights on not sure what it is when lights ld say early 60`s

Humidity control is 2 mini ones which are pullin moister my RH is 48%<a href="http://www.rollitup.org/attachments/vertical-growing/2642772d1367672649-bacon-vertical-imag0087.jpg" title="Name: IMAG0087.jpg
Ok, so I have 18 - 45 degree coupler's
30 feet of 6 in pvc tubing
6 end caps
plenty of pvc primer and glue.
5 or 5.5 in net pots

I have been growing since I was a child ( my father told me we were growing tomato plants in the basement lol ) , I have experience with indoor and outdoor grows, soil and hydroponics. I am very new to vertical growing, and it is my next big project. I've been looking over the forums for months and finally decided to join up and hopefully get some great suggestions from you all.

My idea for this grow stems from http://www.octagonhydroponics.com, it's a rather expensive grow unit being sold and I want to build something along these lines. My plan is to use a top feed system and hopefully build a 3 level octagon.

I'm a little stuck right now with regards to my next step. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas? Here are my main questions

How long to do you think I should be cutting my pvc sections? ( I was thinking 18in sections)
How many plant's can I place in the sections and how far apart should they be?
Should I go bare bulb or cool tube and how many lights would be suggested? ( I was hoping to get somewhere between 2400 and 3000 watts total)

Okay im building a 3 layered heaths vertical tube in a portable rollable container that you can take apart so it will fit through doors. Cool! the box is 51inx51inx48in. I felt this was best because i need more space for tubing and it would about equal 4 feet after everything is in it. here we go! I'm going to buy 2 600w spectrum enhance hps bulbs 95000 lumens each stacked in the center. I need help calculating lumens per square foot. by my calculation the radius of my cylinder of neted plants will be 34 in and im unsure of the coverage of the actual bulbs but im guessing its the length of the whole cooltube so my height will be 38 in. so surface area of a cylinder is 2pi(r)^2+2pi(r)h right? Then dived by 12 three times to get in square feet. equals === 9793.81 lumen/ft^2 right? is that too much for my plants? Input is appreciated!

So this is the room, sorry about my poor paint skills. I have been pondering what would the most efficient way of running the ducting in this room as the middle of the aisle can reach up to 90-95 degrees while the walk way in line with the chiller will be about 72. feel free to leave any suggestions (flexible or solid ducting? using "T"'s or "Y"? having the end capped off or not)
