It is normal and natural for the plants to eat and the pH go from 6.0 to 7.0 in 20 hours, as they remove different nutes from the water.

It is NOT Normal or Natural to go from 5.8 to 7.5 in half a day.

Was the hydroton rinsed COMPLETELY over and over again?

Are there any chemicals or cleansers attached to the inside of the tank that did not get rinsed off good?

Did you pre-soak the cubes in a low pH solution for 24 hours?

Do you wash your hands good before going into the tank?

Anything dead or wierd in the tank?

Did you start with new tubes and new pumps and all that goes in t he tank?

Hey All - OK, here are pics of my first stained glass project in about 25 years. I named it "Multicolor Ribbons". If I had to grade it myself, I'd give it about a B- or so. It's going to take 4-5 more projects to get better.

Hey - maybe I could do a stained glass panel of a grow!!! LOL

Oh - the panel is upside down in some of these pics.

thanks for your answer johnnybtreed

i have one other question, i started my 2 week old plants off on a 150ppm nute mix two days ago. since then the ec has dropped down to 100 and the ph has risen to 6.3 from 5.8, but the water level hasn't really dropped that much at all. Should I just put some nutes directly into the rez and bump the ppm up to like 175 or 200 now?

Cheers!

Guys,
I have been thinking about starting my first grow. I ordered THE SH kit with the upgraded CFL's. What do you do if you have to go away for the weekend? Have any of you tried an ATO(Auto Top off) device like the ones they make for fish tanks? I have one on my saltwater tank and it works great for that. I was wondering if I could mix up a supply of top off solution at the correct ph and use that to keep the system topped off when I am away from home. Below is a link to the device I am talking about.
Thanks in Advance,
6816

you really shouldn't apply nutes directly to the res pal. what i do and I think was is taught here (anyone correct me if i'm wrong), is drain a gallon from the res, mix the nutes in that and then pour that gallon back in.Much safer. If one of the roots takes a sip of those pure nutes you will have a problem.

you could slowly start bumping it up, just be very watchful of any drooping or clawing. If you see that flush and go back to a little less than you were using before. Then slowly kick it up. Its amazing how well the plants learn to deal with more and more fertilizer.

Simply because you need to mix them up into a liquid form. I add small amount to my main res all the time. I use a spoon and just stir it in.

I do it all the time....
