    Default DWC basket question

    Hey all,

On my next grow I'm considering starting in small baskets for veg and moving them to larger ones (the kind that fit the top of 5 gallon buckets )for flower. I hope this is viable. It would save me a lot of hydroton lol.

My concern is that the smaller baskets have smaller holes for the roots to grow threw. Is this going to make my plants have issues ?

The pic I'm attaching is of the smaller baskets in question. I put a rapid rooter plug next to it for scale

your roots will grow fine in a small net pot.

The problem is that your plant will develop a lot of roots, once u add the hydrogen it will block a lot of holes and roots will be limited. the bigger the net pot the more ways your roots can go. dont get me wrong you can still grow with small net pots. hope u get what i mean.

i use 2" pots from clone to harvest in both aero and dwc. no media needed, just the pot and a collar.

Growinggnome: the less you have to do to a plant the easier it is on the plant. Transplanting is often stressful. Why not plant it in the size net pot you intend to grow it in. There's less chance of damaging the roots in the transfer. I hope that helps. HSA

I use 10" net pots and found that using a 6" grodan block is way better than filling it up completely with hydroton. I put 1 layer of hydroton on the bottom, drop in the 6" grodan block, and then topping it off with hydroton. My roots have way better growth in the blocks and not having to grow through the hydroton and clean up is easy after harvest.
