Question about DIY Cloner construction

I'm making a basic DIY two pencil box cloner and I'm wondering if the humidity dome needs any venting? I'm thinking two small holes on the top of each side and two slightly smaller ones on the bottom of each side as illustrated in the photo.

Good idea or not needed?

I did a similar setup except I found a deeper box to use for the 2nd one that goes on top. Makes it kinda nice because they have a little room to grow up in there if I need them to.

If you look around the bottom of your dome, its not going to be a perfect seal so that will provide a little ventilation assuming that you have them in a well ventilated environment with a fan moving the air around. I also believe that you want to keep as much humidity in there as possible to keep transpiration down. They will get doses of fresh air from the lack of a good seal at the bottom of your dome, plus your going to be taking the dome off a few times a day to spray your clone down with some water.

You really dont need to put holes in the inverted tote used as a dome. You can just push it to the side so the lid overhangs past the end of the lower one, opening an air passage, lowering the humidity. Adjust opening to create the perfect humidity under the dome. Good Luck!

So, at first I was gonna the advice you guys gave me, but I was sitting around holding the little plastic cutouts from making the cloner and DWC setups and I got bored.

I remembered where I originally got the idea that vents might be a good idea.

So, I took a cutout from the DWC a nut a bolt and made this.

You dont even need a dome for a dwc cloner.

that dome in your picture is for a different set up in dwc there is no need for a dome

Nice Job on the DIY! Looks Pro! I have the same one, and find I still have to offset the lid with those fully open. I do like to have the humidity only as high as I need it, no higher, so it is quicker/easier to harden them off. Good Luck! I use 2" Netcups with Neoprene pucks all the way from cutting to harvest. I find the pucks do not allow any humidity to sneak above the lid in Aero/Hydro, so the Dome IS useful. When I used to use hydroton in larger netcups, enough humidity escaped through that I never needed the Dome.

Hey I just discovered you started a journal, let me jump over there and catch up, Looks like you are on your way to becoming Perpetual and Self Sufficient! Some of my favorite Growing Terms!
