well i have a five gallon dwc system. my plant is 5 weeks old and only 5 inch tall... i use the foxfarm line for nutrients. its under a 400 mh. i have a ph tester and tds meter. my ph is at 6.0 humidity is knida low at around 36 %. air temp is steady 72 . and ive only ben up to 500 ppm on tds. but plant looked like signs of over fert. so i backed off a bit. now roots look a lil brownish. dont know if this is normal. i have only grown in soil in the past with fantastic results. this is my second grow in the dwc. my first plants wilted then died.this is a feminized white widow / northern lights. thats why there is only one. im praying its female. what am i doing wrong. i thought dwc was supposed to be easy. although the plant looks ok right now im wondering why i do not get the height im supposed to ? also plant looks droopy a lil bit. Um water level is right at the bottom of the net pot and roots reach the bottom of the bucket. theyre just not full like all the pics i see. and dont know why. also the roots seem to turn this slight brownish color every time i add foxfarm organic big bloom. and why are the leaves so wide compared to what i see? i follow the foxfarm feeding schedule but only half strength. any advise would help.

hey man looks fine, maybe a little droopy do you have good lighting and a fan? I mean the leaves don't have boners or anything... maybe you need to get more oxygen to the roots, it looks like the roots are real spread out but is the oxygen focused in one spot?

I use a little organo in my dwc but not like fox farm league that must be real messy. Even the small bit I used had me bustin out hydrogen peroxide.

good luck

yeah i have a sunleaves 400 watt mh . with a warm delux bulb and i actually added two dual spectrum 2 cfl bulbs to the hood.a 2700k and 5500k.So i think i have plenty of light. i plan to use that all the way through the grow cause i cant afford a hps. i have an exaust fan above the light hood. and i have a small oscillating fan down near the plant. i just read the eight step recover post. so i had already ran for two days with about 6 tbls of hydrogen peroxide per say 3 gal of water. so i just cut all the brown roots off which was pretty much all of them below the net pot. and mixed up a fresh batch of nuts. i ran the foxfarm big bloom through a coffee filter to get rid of some of the sediment. um i have one six inch bubble disk that pretty much does go right up the middle of the res. anyone out there think i need more bubbles? idk. hopefully cutting the roots wont kill the lil girl.

I don't think it looks bad but agree that after 5 weeks it should be bigger. It may have had some problems early on that stunted it but is now recovered. Cutting the roots won't kill it but will probably slow it down even further. It's never a bad idea to get more bubbles.

some of mine looks like that.ive got the same problem.is it the strain ,is it gana be a male, too much water, not enough water, feeding them too much worm castings.can anyone help us?

I see a couple things that could be cause your problem. You should NEVER use H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) with organic nutrients, but I don't believe this is the cause of you problem. They look overwatered to me and I think the problem could be that your reservoir is too warm or you don't have enough bubbles. Do you have any idea what the water temp is? What are you using for bubbles?

well im using a six inch round buble disk. im not sure of the res temp. im gonna invest in a thermometer tomorrow. and i read that im not supposed to use h202 after i already did. but now im back to using big bloom and grow big at half strength. im gonna get another air pump or a bigger one with two outlets so i can put another stone in there. and how do you over water in this system? is my water level to high? i cut off the bad roots and there was still lil ones coming out the bottom of the net pot so i set the water level right at the bottom of it.when i take the net pot out the entire surface of the water is covered in bubbles so i assumed it was enough. the whole thing came as a kit from SH . online. thanks for all the input. keep it coming

I had a similar problem in a 2.5 gallon bucket.Plant was droopy and roots started browning and dying, no nute burn, humidity was good, great lighting and ph was about 6............so i thought.Turned out my probe on my ph meter went south from me leaving it dry for only a few hours.couldnt hurt to check the calibration on your meter.

well i am using grow big and big bloom. i follow the fox farm feeding schedule . except im only using 1/2 the recommended dosage.and i do have ph meter cleaner and calbration solution. and i calibrate about once to twice a month. i have even checked it to the ph test kit that comes with the ph up and down. what i dont understand is if my air temp ranges from 68 to 73 then shouldnt the res temp be around the same? ill get a thermometer tomorrow to know for sure.and i never let the probe dry out on the ph meter. every time i put it away i add water to the cap.and i check the ph twice a day

My res temp is usually 10 degrees lower than my air temp.I use GH flora nutes at half strength.I'm fresh out of ideas at the moment or maybe i took one to many rips. After cutting the dead roots hopefully ur new roots will stay healthy, sounds like uve dotted ur i's.I'll stay tuned and let u know if i can ponder up anything else.

You PMed me to visit here.

You should get an inch of growth every two or 3 days in a DWC, so something is not right to be 5 inches tall in 5 weeks. In 35 days, it should be 17 to 20 inches tall.

I see no signs of over feeding and some signs of under feeding, and with a full set of roots and at least 8 visable leaves, you should be on full nutes.

Organic roots do stain the roots so I am not sure IF you have or had a root problem. You determine a root problem by a STINKING SMELL in the water, and if roots are breaking off, rotting off and floating around, dead and mushey. You air temp tells meor HEAT Burn, or LIGHT burn, so the lights were ample and near enough.

The plant should still be in the VEG cycle, being that small and less than 5 weks old, so why the BLOOM nutes now? That might be your problem, a lack of nitrogen from wrong nutes. The leaves do not shine or look lush or as healthy as should be, and all I can think of is, its the nutes......wrong ones and lack of N in them and not enough of them. let me see what else is posted.

here are some pics with the lights on:spew:
Definitely needs a full dose of nutes judging from those pics.
The peroxide and organic nutes sort of cancel each other out.
Thats all I can see or advise you of from the pics and info provided.

Good Luck, bro, Mist them to get humidity up, a foilage spray is nice and lay some soaking wet rags around to raise humidity.

PPM for Hanna Chart PPM

Seedlings, Early Sprouts 100 to 250

Early Vegging 300 to 400

Full Vegetation 450 to 700

Early Blooming 750 to 950

Full Mature Blooms 1000 to 1600

Note: EC Calculations are different, here's a conversion chart :
heres a great chart that shows how different PPM can be from meter to meter... EC is the only real universal language...

k so i got the temp of my res today. it is like 68. i bought another air pump and 5 in long bubble stick. i uped the nutrients to full strength. and roseman i was using the bigbloom part of the foxfarm trio cause thats what the feeding chart said to do at week 4. but i didnt add it this time.only grow big.so im gonna be patient and just see what happenes. i have this problem where if i dont see results like the next day i try something else. but no more. i must have changed the nute solution 5 times since last thursday. from straight water to a lil nutrients to some h202 to stronger nutes and back to water and finally today to full strenght nutes.... too much thinking.i guess im lucky shes still alive. so i hope everything turns out ok. now all im gonna do is maintain the ph and change the solution in the res once a week. till she is tall enought to bud. im thinking 10 inches or so. give or take a couple inches. oh yeah i have problems getting the humidity up. i can get it as high as 25 but thats it. at night i get it up to 40. and thats with a humidifier and a couple of soaked rags in the room.hopefully thats ok. and i have also started to mist her a couple times a day. also i have switched to 24/7 instead of 18/6

You upped to full strength? Bad I dea, I did that a couple weeks back thinking they didnt have enough nutes but if that were the case you'd get classic signs of nutrient deficiency like yellowing leaves veins, and spots!

36% humidity is way to low. I was at that level and i completly fucked my plants up to hell. Everyone said nute burn or too much water. It was too dry. If your leaves are getting crispy then your too low, and for my system 36 was too damn low. To check this i misted my plants with clean water for the day and they started to improve! I upped it to 60-80%. If i were you Id mist the bastards with a spray bottle like fog in the morning air. Nothing unnatural about a cool mist.

Let me ask you do you vent the whole rooms air out? If so then your sucking out all the humidity. JUST LIKE ME. I even purchased a humidifier to counter this. Everyone says humidity is your enemy, but there is a balance, and plants in veg love humidity!

I soak a bath towel in water and hang it on a clothes hanger in my closet over a bucket and let it drip into the bucket and I blow my oscilating fan on it. I also put 4 styrafoam cups full of water on my lid and I lay soaking wet face clothes (rags) rolled up like cigars on my lid and everywhere I can, around my tank. I also Mist twice daily with pH balanced plain water, and they love it. Heeps my humidity up 20% higher than not doing anything. Try it. I do raise my lights a foot higher while I mist them. My plants like to feel like they are in a rain forrest, during VEG.

I think plants that size can handle full nutes but watch for yellow tips appearing for the first day or two.

Hey guys I also am running that Foxfarm stuff big bloom, seems to be too organic. I also have supper hard water (about 250ppm) . My system is a recirculating Dwc (Blazeoneups from the DIY section). I am having the same problems as chevyman. If I cut out the big Bloom, what should i replace it with if anything? I have water temp at 68, room temp at 70-75, My humidity is real low. I have a low ryder strand so I am keeping my ppm about 300-400. The plants are in middle of flower too. Roots are getting brown foamy slime built up in the system, and roots are breaking off and getting brown too. The roots are pretty skimpy. Today add a 10ml a gallon to the system of h2o2. I hope it will help clear things up in the system.

so diddy here is what i did, but im only in veg. i cut off all the bad roots. i guess ur not supposed to use h202 with organics. so i wouldnt do that. even though i did. but i didnt know. and your in flowering so i cant recomend what to use. if you have tiger bloom try using just that. but i dont know for sure. im really not impressed with the big bloom at all. i used the foxfarm trio in soil and got fantastic results, but for dwc so far im not really liking it. but i already bought all three so im not gonna waste it. get in touch with roseman he really knows his shit.. good luck man
