What is your water temp? They don't really need that much light right now. You must have it hung really high as you have lots of stretching. You can't put it as low as it should be because the 400 w will heat up the water to much. A smaller light, like a 150 or cfl's would be better for them in this type grow system, until the canopy is big enough to shade the reservour and keep the water cool.

Thanks Harry, The temp doesn't seem high, the room temp is high 70s humidity is high40s, I'll put something reflective over the tub to keep res temp lower. They just look a lot smaller and seem to have a lot less leaves than some other plants I've seen here ? PH is low 6s , I was going to wait till after the wkend and change water and try 1/4 nutes. Thanks again for input.

I would turn that 400W light off... and switch to CFL's (for Vegging). Pick up some 6500K bulbs, Y splitters and cheap domes. Your electric bill will be much lower too. You can put the CFL's within inches of your plants. They will love it... and wont stretch. I used 6 - 8 100W bulbs for Veggin and my plants were HUGE. (Check out my grow)
Turn the 400W on for flowering and you will be golden.

Thanks Shoooot, I was looking for a conversion mh bulb for veging, but for the same price I can get a few cfls (6500k) and rest my hps till flower time ! Thanks for the idea

I picked up 6500k 1600 lumen cfls at wallmart. about 8$ for 2. You can keep them so close they grow very tight nodes, nice and bushy. Cfl's are great for vegging imo.

When I looked for a cfl there was nothing to denote 6500k, but it did sat 1600 lumens. So would that be the right color spectrum for veging? Thanks for all the input...

hey hippy. mine are GE. The box says "daylight 6500k" on the left edge. they are 26 watt. 6500k is the color spectrum, you should be sure they are the right ones. Look for the words daylight, cool natural light, The bar code on the pack is: 43168 85397. GL

hey if you lift your lid can you see the light? if so i would paint it black,or tape it up i did had problems with light getting in
