Have you found any substitute for net pots? Theres no other way to get them from anywhere but a hydro store, in person or online.

just get small plastic pots and drill/cut lots of holes in them, not too big so the medium falls through the holes but big enough to let the roots grow through...

or u can go real ghetto and cut a couple holes smaller than a dime in the bottom of those beer pong cups and inserting the feeder in there...hey not a bad idea!..LOL

FYI, just measured. Average size hole in a net pot is 1/8". Slightly bigger to the outside and slightly smaller in the middle. Slits on the side are about 3/16" x slightly less than 1/2" and it is 1 1/2" deep from the bottom up. Gee I hope that made sense!

I saw a lady on here a couple years ago, that took a razor knife and cut slits in red plastic cups, and made small long rectangular holes int he bottom and sides of the cups. She used drive way pea-gravel for the Hydroton. She had a real RIGGED DIY setup, but she got plants to grow.

Ive seen panty hose and fish nets used too, glued to a cup top.

I suggest a 8 gallon tote, dark plastice to keep the LIGHT out.
Most difficult part is cutting those round holes in the lid.

But look at what I get:

is the advantage of this over regular dwc the water circulation? have you tried a side by side to see if moving the water is helpful? it seems to me like the water pump isn't necessary if the roots are in the water already.

pick up hole saws for cutting the holes. I just got a hole saw kit with every size from 3/4" to 5" for $16. stick that on the end of my power drill and its makin holes til the battery dies.

sub any container with holes for a net pot. I was thinking about trying some of those green net baskets used for picking berries, but they seem a little too flimsy.
