    World of Hempy

    Welcome to the World of Hempy thread.

    Here we can discuss all things Hempy related and share hints and tips. I'm hoping for lots of member participation with pics of your own efforts. I'll do my best to answer any questions about my experiences and I hope you all will do the same. Lets make this a great thread and extol the virtues of the Hempy!

    First thing I guess is to explain what a Hempy is;

    Well simply put, a Hempy is a container with a Vermiculite and Perlite mix used to grow our favourite plant. The Vermiculite is a highly absorbant natural mineral, Perlite is described as an amorphous volcanic glass. Both are available at your local hydro store.

    I'm in. It's one of the few ways I haven't grown anything. I want to give it a try, just haven't seen enough knowledge on it. Seems like most people doing it are pulling decent results.
    Tell me more, lol.

    Ok, as a founding member of WOH, I should introduce my Hempy system.

    I run 3 X 600w digital ballasts /w Air-cooled hoods and Carbon filters.
    I use a mix of 1:3 / Vermiculite:Perlite and I grow in 2L bottles.
    I clone in a DIY spray/mist cloner.

    Under my lights I fit 140 Hempys, I currently have around 80 Hempys in flower at present, after my last crop . I rack 21 Hempy's in a 42L container and have cut holes in some 6mm ply to hold the Hempys secure.

    Killer Man. Usually when I see hempy buckets they are just single buckets with holes drilled for drainage a couple inches above the bottom. How is your setup run exactly. Do you water every few days to get rid of old nutes and stale air, or just let them wick. Couldn't tell in the picture. Slick setup man.

    Ived tried various hempy ideas. This seems to work easy for me. Regular hempy bottles with holes 2.25 inches from the bottom. The bottles sit in the 42L tub. The tub has a drainage hole. When I feed I slide a tub from under the lights and place the tub over a bucket and water every Hempy by hand.

    I now wrap my bottles in Gorilla tape. Its waterproof/lightproof and provides a durable finish.

    If I had more height I could make this an auto feeding system and even a recirculating system. Hopefully those with more space will try some fancy 'Hempy trough' setups and post them here

    Rinsing out the impurities is best practice when using Vermiculite or Perlite. I started using the small sieve but found this great large garden sieve in the shops which cuts down the time it takes to prepare the hempys. It also helps when it comes to Recycling the used Perlite after harvest (I throw out used Vermiculite).
