Default Need Advice On My Lighting Setup!!!
Hey i need advice. i received two small white widow plants when they were about 6" in height. i have never grown any marijuana before and decided to try it out for fun. Can you take a look at the picture to see if i need to improve anything or make changes? the plants are now about 2 1/2 feet each. I'm just a little scared because i see other peoples plants on this site and the plants are so full and bushlike. These two are so skinny. Is it just the strain or is my lighting not strong enough?

currently i have them on a 12/12 cycle with miracle grow potting soil i got from home depot and regular flourescent lights. i only water them when the soil gets dry and crumbly to avoid over watering them. i havent started giving them any nutrients or anything.

For what you've put into them, I would say that you're doing a fine job!

You can never have enough lighting for these babies, though typically with more light comes more heat. Florescent lighting works great, and if you're interested in stepping up a notch go with an MH/HPS light system.

Do some reading here on the forums. There's so much info at your finger tips. It will take a while to absorb, but its definitely all here.

Good luck. They look very healthy.

they look good to me as well. You may want to get some y splitters so you can run two lights on each fixture. The more light the better. Use this site and pick the brains of the master growers(like fdd) they love to help.

Sorry bro, but if you said your already in the flowering cycle, you better get some serious light on those quick, or I'd say your gonna be screwed. Right now it looks like you have 2 23w CFLs, 1 per plant, which equals about 1750 lumens per plant. For comparison, "magazine cover" buds are grown with at least 5000 lumens per plant. Some people even have setups allowing 10000 lumens per plant. Also your reflector of choice seems to be no good. If the inside of the housing is anything like the outside, your reflector is doing exactly what you don't want it to do, soaking up light and not reflecting it. I recommend you at least get a 250w HPS from HTGsupply- cheapest prices anywhere. I also like the fact that you can buy lamp kits from 125w to 400w with only a $10 price difference. Just please for the sake of your plants, get them sufficient lighting as soon as possible.

I'm in no way qualified to give advice since I'm on my first grow, but from questions I've asked and research I've done I'd agree with Dankforall. You should remove the houseing from around the light and use a y adapter to screw 2 CFL's into each lamp. Also if you could put up some reflective material around your plants it would help get more light to them. More light means happier plants. I've learned that some of the best places to find info for our types of grow is Indoor Growing and Newbie Central. Peace and Good luck.

Want my opinion? Keep with the CFL's for now. Wait until you have finished your first grow before you go spend tons of money on a lighting system, especially if you only plan to grow these two plants. Just get yourself some Y splitters for those lamps and get yourself some higher watt cfl's.
