Talking MasterD's DIY DWC/bubbleponics w/ pics
Thanks to Roseman and other bubbleheads and their pics and whatnot im going DWC/bubbleponics, im a tight arse and i like to build my own gear, so im building one myself, i also live in australia and dont know if i can even buy the stealth system here...

anyway started with a clear 50L tub, all the black ones were 2 small or couldnt get a lid 2 fit...(fuck bunnings), so i gave it the old white black white treatment, frst white to prime the plastic (plastic bends alot and without its likely to chip and peel) the black to stop light getting into the tank and the last light coat of white to stop it attracting more heat that it needs to (i run HID)

i then went about drilling holes in the top for the netpots, my holesaw being to small this was quite amusing for my mate to watch.... and i was way to lazy to go out and buy a bigger one.

the first one was just a laugh i cut a single whole in the top and used all sorts of shit to TRY and cut it out bigger...FAIL!!
so i eventually get the drill out with the biggest piece and cut whole 1-2mm apart and then cut the wholes out with a saw looking thing on a swiss army knife and did the same for the second.... it wasnt to bad but then i stoped smoking cones and straitened up...
the 3rd and 4th i drilled 3 holes with my larest holesaw and smoothed them out with my stanly knife and covered them with gaffa tape..

i then covered the top with mylar and and taped it down and cut 4 X's over the netpots

i also cut a small whole in the side and covered it with mylar and cut an X for the air lines and cords...

all i need are my bubblers & pumps which i should be getting tomorrow

any comments or critisizms welcome....

btw i always double my mylar over to make sure it actually STOPs light....anyway thanks for checking it out

looks great dude. just curious, why did you choose to do 4 in 1 as opposed to 4 seperate "buckets"?
i am assuming it was the obvious reason of it just being the easier way? are there any pros/cons to having it all together in one bucket? im a soil guy personally, but plan on going with the buckets next go around.

i just see it as why make 4 buckets? i just liked rosemans DIY tub and made a few changes, worked on it a bit today.... so ill have pics up in couple of hours, couldnt find a hub, so i dodgied it..

BTW any bubbleheads or anyone with experience know if a 2X180 (360)L/h air pump running 2 12 Inch air stones is sufficent for about 40L of water, i ran it today and it doesnt seem good enough, im going to swap it for another one tomorrow if i can, that is unless someone advises against it... anyway try to get some pics up

Ah! MasterD my friend, glad we were able to convert you at least to have you give it a try =P

A few things though...

Good call on the multilayer painting, it should definitely be light tight now from that aspect, but I am worried about that hole in the side for the cables and air hose lines. I think that you may have some issues with light leaks in there unless I am not seeing the pictures properly. Any light getting into the tank is no good. It is just going to cause algae to grow and start a bunch of issues so it is definitely something that you want to make sure is sorted out.

Besides that, it looks good man, best of luck to you.

and Mc,

The main differences would be growth cycles, and plant size. If you plan on harvesting at different times, growing different strains that need special nutrient treatment, or even transplanting them at some point you would want to use separate 5 gallon buckets for them. With the single tank it is much easier and makes sense as long as you don't plan on separating them. It is possible to get them out of there without harming the others, but it can get difficult. Eventually the roots of the plants will all link up together and form a giant mass that you wouldn't want to risk separating.

Hopefully that helps both of you out a bit.

Masterd, I can't seem to find the specs on the outputs for my air pumps. I know that they are for 20-60 gallon tanks but I know nothing about metric units that would help you =/

I use 2 of the 20-60 gallon air pumps, each running one 6" air circle and it works out fine.

sorry also

40L is 10.56 US gallon(res size)

2X180=360L is 2X47.54=95.09 US gallon (air pump cap.)

that is enough. I had a successful grow using two twelve inch airstones and a 20 gal tub and they definitely grew okay.
