DIY Hydro Thingy

Fast and Cheesy...

Like I was just thinking that I have an area in my op that has enough light to warrant a few more ladies...

But I am kinda strapped for cash right now so I went looking around the house...

I found...

1 - 185 gph water pump

2 - 5ft of flexible hose

3 - 18 gallon tub (the res)

4 - bottom half of a 32 gallon rubbermaid (the tray)

5 - 11 6" pots

6 - some string

7 - some gravel from the driveway ( I would have preferred using hydroton, but the gravel was free, we'll see how it works)

It is a recirculating drip/squirt sytem...

The water gets pumped to the individual pots via holes in the hose.. and returns to the res via holes in the bottom of the tray...

I plan on running it 4 hours on 15 min off... during lights on...

Simple as it gets, and although it was not free, most people here have this stuff at home...

Here is the picture...

and I'll make sure to bring updated pics when the time comes...

Cheers...

Got rid of the strings... drilled some holes on the pots...

Now I need a plug for the hose....

It will most likely work alright even though it's not the prettiest system in the world. The gravel kind of sucks. You don't know how dirty they are (I hope you clean them with a bleach solution).

Thanks for the Post...

I think it will work ok for what it is...

And I decided against the gravel due to weight...

The tray sits on top of the res, and I was very afraid of a collapse...

So I dug around and found some dirty, rooty hydroton... which I cleaned and used instead of the gravel...

Not enough for all 11 pots, but it's a start...

The "thingy" sits between 2 real trays with real lights... so it will not be getting FULL light, but I figure I will still get at least 10g per lollipop...

That's close to an extra qp, just by running a water pump...

Not a bad deal... and it will up my Grams per Watt ratio a bit too...

Corner plants, I guess some call them...lol...

Oh! and the tooth brush worked so well as a plug that I am just going to cut off some of the excess and keep it there... lol...

Here is a pic of it with clones installed... just a moment ago...

And a bonus shot of something a little further along... on the Ebb/Flow...

and as we get closer.. we see some resinous goodness...lol...

Cheers...

Thanks!

One thing I would and will modify is that I have the "squirt hose" too high on the pots, soaking my RW cubes...

About half way up the pot should be sufficient...

Another thing that came about unplanned is the fact that my pump puts out more water than the drains will pass... ( I know I can drill more holes or make them bigger, just read on...)

I am using this feature, along with a timer, to actually flood the tray, as well as squirt on the root zone...

Tricky... if the timer fails to shut off, it WILL overflow...

Kinda like ebb/flow without the overflow.. scary...lol...

But the res is small and set that if it over flows, the water will PROBABLY, just go back to the res... I cut a couple of "V" notches on the sides, so the low spot on the tray wall is over the res...

I hope all that made sense...

Cheers...

Just a quick update on the thingy..lol..

As you can see, they are still alive...

I still have not had the hydroton to spare, so there are a few slots left, but that will be remedied soon..lol...

Well, I think it works...lol...

Also worthy of mention on this thread is the new "cloner" attempt..lol...

I hope you realize I do these things for fun..lol...

So I used a gallon jug of Fox Farms Tiger Bloom, an air stone/pump and some store bought "neoprene inserts"...

I plugged in 9 cuttings, and filled it with straight tap water @ pH 7.2...

We'll see what happens...lol..

Cheers...

What is it that they say...

"One man's garbage is another man's treasure..."

But wait, that was my own garbage...

Shit what does that say about me...lol....

Do I treasure my own garbage... shit...

Is there a philosopher in the house???

Oohhh... because I didn't spend $400 on it..lol...

Would you suggest a timer/schedule?

Or do you think 24/7 is best?

I have heard that giving the stems a chance to dry out, hastens the roots...

bubbleponics/dwc is different from aeroponics.

normally dwc is on 24/7 as opposed to aero

you should be fine with 24/7 in dwc.

I think tihs fall is the category of NEITHER NOR...lol...

The stems are not submerged, they are suspended just above the surface, where the bubbles mist the rootzone...

I suppose it works in the same way an Aerocloner would, but instead of pipes and jets, I have bubbles...

By definition, wouldn't DWC require the stems to be IN the water?

you should be fine with 24/7 in dwc.
I know DWC NEEDS 24/7 aeration...

But this isn't really DWC...

Oh shit... I'm stoned again...

I think it will work...

but on the contrary...this IS bubbleponics/dwc

you said it yourself "where the bubbles mist the rootzone"
