Yeah...I'm kind of the same way.....it never seems good enough no matter how much I invest. I get bored just watchin them grow. I can give you some plans for my DIY bud dryer if you're just itchin to build something.

My bud dryer kicks ASS! Cost me an arm and a leg to build though.

Got to dig it out for pics. Basically its a big plastic storage box. On each end there is a 4" muffin fan...the intake is on the lower right side and the exhaust is on the upper left. Naturally the intake blows IN and the exhaust blows out. The inlet side has a piece of 4" smoke pipe connected to it ( about 3' long) with a 90 right where it connects to the fan so the 4" pipe is vertical. At the top of the pipe I put a ceramic reptile bulb which is wired to a dimmer and to the on/off switch. I have one of those Radio Shack indoor/outdoor thermometers installed too with a probe inside the box. I use the dimmer to adjust box temps.

I built 4 racks inside the box using wire shelving parts. I pop the buds in, turn on the fans and the reptile bulb ( which also heats the smoke pipe a little and transfers that heat to the air) and in 5 days my stuff is dry....not cured, but dry. I think there MAY be a pic towards the end of the Papaya grow thread. Its a black box.
