Looking for info on making a vertical cooltube suitable for a 1000w bulb. Ideally an 8"dia tube that can withstand the heat. Will be using 500 cfm duct fans to cool, duct fans are 8" dia... can i reduct that to 4 in and use still use the 8" fan? can the bake a round sustain the heat a 1kw will produce? i have read both statements, wondering if anyone has done it.

The bake around should be able to withstand the heat of the bulb considering that it is made to be put in an oven and bake bread in or something. And yeah I don't see any problem running an 8 inch duct fan through a 4 inch reducer into the bake around. How are you planning on running it? I would suggest ducting on each side of the bake around with one end going to the fan and the other outside of your grow room so you can bring cooler air in over the bulb exhuasting the heat out with it. I too am looking to build or buy a cooltube reflector for my 1000wter. What did you use for a cylinder?

What you want is a Candle Shade made from Hurricane Glass. It what I used when building my friends grow. We bought one like this http://www.save-on-crafts.com/hurricanes.html , it hasn't broken yet. He is only using 600W though, but it works well.
