yeah it would be ideal to match wire gauges with whatever is inside your light, but something relatively close would suffice

Cool. When i get these lowryders done i think i'm gonna 'remote' my ballast from the hood itself. Forking thing gets hot! Thanks!

is there any restriction on the length of cable you can extend. mines a mh.

use however much cable you need...
You'd have to have metres of the stuff coiled up before you'd ever create any kind of electromagnetic field.
measure how much you need and allow a few inches for adjustment.
Wire gauge should always be as close to the original as you can find..
