Question Is it safe to cook with THC extracted with acetone?
Hi all, nice forum you got here

I am starting to bake goods with cannabutter, and so far I have used a rice cooker (works surprisingly well, turn it on cook until the butter is melted, then add your product and turn it on keep), and a double-boiler pot.

Anyway, I have read that acetone works as an excellent solvent to remove the THC from the material. Alternatively, chloroform works too since it isn't flammable and is an even better solvent than acetone. If I were to use acetone or chloroform to remove the THC from my product then evaporated it over low heat, would the resulting product be safe to consume (or smoke)? Also, would it have a strange taste?

Thanks!

I haven't used either but i do use Everclear so as not to worry about if i completely got all the chems out. I can cook with my everclear tincture and it has very little taste if done right and depending on what you cook. Say i put it in my chicken soup in the slow cooker, you won't taste anything but chicken soup. Now, if i put it in outmeal cookies, the cookies will come out green and barely be edible due to the awful taste. If you have access to Everclear, I would suggest using it since a 95% alcohol solvent works REALLY well and the other 5% is just water. It also evaporates very quickly with or without heat.

So basically as long as you evaporate the solvent thoroughly, there should be no funky taste or anything correct?

acetone is pretty hot and leaves little residue. if you can smoke it you can eat it. I wouldn't do it but me and acetone don't get along.

Lol...stoner moment . So it should be safe to use acetone or another less than healthy solvent to remove THC as long as said solvent is evaporated before consuming?
