Depends on the quality of the bud you're using. I suggest 1 stick of butter if its high potent bud and 1/2 stick if its some mids

if its chronic then i would say about 1/4lb butter (one stick) if its schwag or mids i would half that. around here i buy 1/2 oz of good mids for 30 bucks and cook it with about 3/4lb butter. save your good shit for the bong
