Default How do I tell how hot to cook oil to extract?
I just made a batch of 8 brownies from scratch with 1/8 mids and etc, and I want to know for next time if theres a way to tell how hot I want the oil so it extracts but doesnt evaporate the THC.

I had it on the lowest heat using canola oil. (gas stovetop) and even then it was very hot (above water boiling point), i occasionally turned it up to where the edges were sizzling, but i didn't know if that was a good or bad sign, so i kept the temp down. Heated for 45 min about.

Should it have been higher, or was that fine? After mixing I baked the brownies at 325* F, just to be safe.

1/8 of mid-grade to how much oil? It does not sound like enough.Just below boiling is the right temp. The water will keep the oil from burning.

I used 1 cup and a tablespoon, as the brownie directions said.

I didnt use water, however. Should i float the oil on water? because i have heard you only need that for butter.

If you do it without the water you run a high chance of burning the oil...Plus you barley have enough weed....I think you will have to eat half of the pan?

I only use oil..no water. I keep it on low heat just below a simmer. The trick that I have learned is that I leave it for hours at a time. It seems like when I do this, I get a great batch. Seems to work for me.

A common mistake in making "magic brownies" is using oil. It's much better to use butter and a little bit of water. The butter has a higher fat content to hold the THC in and the water keeps the butter from burning. Even though brownies don't say to use butter just put it in instead of the oil and mostly in lieu of the water as well. You can add a little bit of water to make for easier mixing.
1. melt down butter completely
2. add weed/plant matter etc
3. bring to a boil and immediately down to a simmer and keep covered
4. occasionally stir and submerge matter under butter
5. continue step #4 for 2-4 hours
6. strain out butter from matter using very fine strainer and force as much possible liquid(high THC content butter) out of the plant matter, or weed.
7. put in Tupperware container in fridge untill hardened then seperate nasty liquid at the bottom from the solid butter on top.
8. add butter to brownie recipe and bake. MAKE SURE NOT TO BURN YOUR BROWNIES!!!!! cook at 350 untill no longer gooey and allow to cool.

there you have it, easy peasy!!!
