The Calexico Planning Commission granted a decree prohibiting Medical marijuana Dispensaries. The passed decree would lead to a complete prohibition on cooperatives and collectives of medical marijuana. It wouldn’t keep people who are eligible from obtaining medical marijuana, and wouldn’t stop that person from having the help of another individual to assist them grow marijuana. However, the decree would ban any major marijuana sales business. Morton Park, the Deputy City Attorney stated that the prohibition could be suitable for resentment by medical marijuana’s proponents.
On the other hand, the Calexico City Council has already made four public debates regarding the issue and some resident proponents of medical marijuana have been present at the discussions. However, Morton Park stated that the prohibition won’t possibly make any difficulty with the government regarding this topic.
The Council examined a variety of alternatives, assessing different cities; decrees, assessing amendments in court cases and legislation concerning medical marijuana concerns. The Calexico City Council gave instructions on its meeting which will be held on August 16, 2010 in order to prepare a decree banning dispensaries for the consideration of the Council. The City Staff gave a decree prohibiting dispensary facilities of medical marijuana for consideration at the Council’s meeting held last December 6, 2011.
