Anybody have any neat ideas for kief extraction devices?

Looking for different ideas that people use to make diff keif extraction devices. I just got a 12inch by 16inch 125 micron screen.id like to make some kind of tumbler. A friend of mine in California has a amazing kief machine made out if a cement mixer. I basically want to make a mini version of it. Any suggestions from exprenced kiefers out their?? Thanx:joint:

well... I suppose if you're just looking for ideas, I'll throw one at ya to break the ice.

I imagine by wanting a "device" rather than just your screen, you're looking for a bit of automation?

If going low tech, try making dry ice kief. Throw your stuff in a bucket and strap that screen on tight, shake it for about 5 mins and done son! Cheap to do, leaves no mess behind and very efficient.

If looking for automated, try rigging something to a variable speed drill.. say a coffee can with most of each side removed, then wrapped with fine window mesh. Then spin inside plastic tote.

Sounds like a lot of work tbh... just try dry ice mang!

Dry ice and a bubble bag(s).........seriously you will be amazed....while your buddys tumbler is tumbling away you will be done already.

Hey twostoke #1 what does full melt mean? And 2 how much did you run threw your bubble bag to end up with that? Lookin pretty dam good! Just using a 220 bag nothing smaller?

Full melt when you put a lighter on it it melts....finest quality....that's my understanding.
This was my first run with dry ice....I filled the bubble bag maybe 1/4 -1/3 full just a few big handfulls....5gal bag.....don't even reckon it was a qp....didn't use anything smaller someone else is gonna have to chime in on the full melt with dry ice....if I do it with the finer microns I will post up.

I have sifted by hand no dry ice in the past.....and have a bubblator I put to work plenty.....thought about a pollenator but the dry ice worked so well I was amazed.....best yeilding method I have used.

How about a clean 10% in about 3 minutes? Check out the Grinning Reaper!

Wow I never heard of using dry ice. Where do you get it from? Also when you mix it in the bag with the ice do you use one of those mixers that looks like a handheld milkshake mixer? I actually have some bubble bags and a few times I'd put a couple baggies worth of trim in a bucket full of ice mix it with egg beaters for like 45 mins and then run it threw 5 bags / 220 120 160 73 20. After all that I got maybe 2 grams. Kinda wasn't worth it. I must have done a poor job. I'd like to try again to see results like you have.

Dude I get it at the grocery store its actually cheaper than water ice....no mixing for me dry ice is co2 heavier than air so trim in the bucket, dry ice on top and Ilet it sit for 5 mins or so and the cold goes down through the trim.....bubble bag on top.....shake around a little right before you dump then flip it and shake onto a non porous surface.....it will blow your mind how much comes out I'm tellin ya watch some vids on youtube

dam great idea with the sander. I have the same sander right here next to me. How exactly does it work? Rubber feet on the box allowing it to vibrate with the sander? What's the attachment you have on the sander?
The ground and frozen buds lie on a 150 micron stainless screen, with a Nylon plate resting on top, to which is attached a palm sander. The horizontal shear action of the sander breaks off the trichomes, which fall though the mesh into the cookie sheet, that the thing sits in on rubber feet.

The skirt around the edge of the plate keeps stuff from flying off at the crack between the plate and frame, and there is an adjustable stretcher bar on the bottom tensioning the screen.

Dry ice is no good. It freezes the trim to a brittle dusty powder (-106 degrees) which gets in with the kief. Check out any kief extracted with dry ice under a microscope and you will see this is fact.
I ran a lot of material with dry ice with different meshes, different run times, and more and less amounts of dry ice. It all resulted in keif mixed with fine crystallized trim powder. Even the smaller mesh sizes. It also freezes the resin head stocks and heads so frozen that they shatter into tiny little pieces.

Stick to bubble bags or dry sift for keif for best results of full melt. I can extract dry sift with smaller mesh sizes for quick runs of 2-4% for absolute cream kief full melt. I then extract a little longer for a more commercial grade kief.

Large pollen extractor can do 10 lbs of trim in minutes

Pressed 1/4 lb kief brick

Hard as glass shatter made from full melt kief
