Regarding Dry Ice Method..

Ya it freezes the tricomes so they fall off ez. You can use normal ice if you can put the material in the freezer for a bit

People use dry ice because its really really cold. Small rocks aren't all that cold. Its pretty easy to find dry ice in the UK though and pretty cheap as well - ~1.3euro/lb. Call around... If you live in the boonies check ice cream makers.

just dry your herb out bone dry and use your extraction bags in the same manner you would with dry ice, to get dry sieve style kief. Same exact product, no need for the dry ice

The dry ice helps quite a bit.

I wouldn't waste my time kiefing if you have access to dry ice OP. Much better yields

yeah no doubt it helps quite a bit. He was saying it's pricey and was trying to find a way around using it. You won't get more resin glands off of the plant using dry ice, they will just come off faster.

Dry ice is actually frozen Carbon Dioxide (CO2). It is approx 109.3 degrees below zero, cold enough to flash freeze your skin and give bad forstbite burns. CO2 when frozen dissolves (or sublimates) as a GAS not a liquid, so it does not add any water to the kief or bud as you sift. It also flash freezes the trichomes off leaves, trim or bud. Regular water based ice cubes will never be as cold as dry ice and dry ice is *not* expensive if you live near a populated area. Notice I didn't say 'civilized'. Dry sifting is one way easy to collect some kief, but it cannot compete with dry ice period, in terms of quality OR quantity.

nice write up, But using dry ice isn't going to put more resin on the plant, nor will it make the resin more potent. i don't know what gave you that idea. Dry sieve hash is not easy to make if you're going for top quality. I've made plenty dry sieve hash that melted right through a screen, just like i've made dry ice hash that did the same. Dry ice hash comes out exactly like dry sieve. It's just much quicker with dry ice.

This isn't about putting more trichs on your material...if you have good ganja it's about getting the most trichs off!
Apparently you have not made that much Dry Ice Kief with quality bags. Anyone who has *knows* that dry ice wins hands down. Why?

1. 109.3 degrees below zero freezes anything... in a matter of seconds. This works even on large dense nugs (which could be bone dry or harvest day fresh) and still extract a larger yield. Dry sieving simply doesn't work on fresh trim or buds, sorry.
2. Dry ice *pulverizes* or breaks down leaf, bud and even stems due the extreme brittleness of the now frozen material. Dry sieving doesn't do that, even with a tumbler, which is old school and slow as hell.
3. Trichomes are sticky by design. Get them to 109.3 degrees below zero and they solidify and are no longer as tacky. This helps keep the trichs from sticking to other materials as they break off and separate from the leaf, trim or bud they were attached to.
4. Dry sieving anything causes a static electricity buildup on dissimilar materials: Just agitating one ounce of dry buds in a quart Ziploc baggie and you can see it sticking to the plastic.
5. Using quality sift bags (like Boldt bags) will allow you to get the most out of your product when used properly.


I can go on, but you should get the point by now.
