If you can, it's super easy to turn it into top notch kief or hash! Had some laying around in the freezer and a $3.24 cent block of dry ice and #220 Boldt bag and 15 minutes work... Voila! Instant ingredients for your medibles, bowl toppers, you name it! Nothng compares to having a giant jar of this around, as it doesn't seem to go 'bad'. The freezer was starting to smell pretty dank, so I figured we'd better get it out of there. Here's what I got out of a 1 Gallon ZipLock freezer bag full of frozen trim. View attachment 2077827

DustBomb- They sell it at Alberstons Grocery stores. It's located in a chest cooler behind customer service counters.
Beats the HELL out of bubble, water or any other method I have tried as:

1. NO fire danger whatsoever!
2. NO fumes or chemicals!
3. NO residues or other harmful additives mixed in...this is fairly pure kief.
4. FAST results, and the results speak for themselves.
5. Does not count as a 'manufactured' product as it is straight kief, (you can collect kief just by emptying out your bags on a regular basis). HASH is heated and pressed which counts as 'manufactured' and many times the po-pos will try to add that mfg charge on cause they are dicks! Beat them at thier own game and don't make it easy for em!

Things to watch for:

DON'T shake/agitate your 220 micron Boldt bag too long, as it will start to add vegetative matter to your otherwise golden kief, turning it greenish.
DON'T touch the dry ice with your hands or wihout thick gloves on...dry ice is frozen CO2 and it has an approx temp of 109.3 degrees below zero. You will get a bad skin burn if you are not careful!

You can google with the terms dry ice kief and you should get lot's of hits, just be SAFE out there!

I'll add my 2cents since I was able to use a lot to do testing and refine the timing for quality.

a 1 minute shake will produce the best quality blonde keif with little veg matter. 1.5minutes max for the 1st stage. 2minutes and longer will produce a green tinged product that has more veg matter. if possible, prior to the 2nd stage I break up chunks as they can get stuck together. i liked doing 2 stages so i get A and B grade seperated.

EC (or anyone) did you ever experiment with filtering through bubble bags after shaking with dry ice? Seems like you could then shake longer to get all the trichomes, especially off the small buds, then filter for different quality levels.

i never went that far in my experiments, i was happy with the keif results. but i'm sure there is a lot of trichs still locked up in the frozen dry ice ball, it might be worth a thaw and reprocess

EC- Thanks for the timings on that, I should have timed it myself but just watched what color was starting to filter through the screen instead.

Medshed- I have done that before, but actually dislike the water, time and trouble. If I had a 5 gallon bucket full of trim, then I would for sure. For smaller amounts the 3 bag Boldt bags work quite well, #220, 73, and 25 micron all give you a decent range to work with. If one already has the full 8 bag bubble bag setup, then def go for it, you will achieve a great end result, but it does take a bit more time and trouble.

well I would have to order it it looks like...I found one thing that said there was one in my area...but when I looked up the name of the place the only result was another forum asking what they were going to do with the derelict building...lol. So...no dice...

a lot of big chain grocery stores carry dry ice in mini freezers near the front. it's a hot seller for camping. if that fails, look for a company that sells bottled gas, these places usually carry DI too. we were picking it up for under $1/lb (5lbs is plenty for a home run)

I know what I'm doing tonight then. I've been sitting on the trim from my last grow because I have a hard time finding the time to do 3 runs (for 3 strains) of ice water hash. I also have a hard time getting motivated for such a time sink when I know there's not that much hash in there. The dry ice method sounds like a winner. Afghan Kush bedtime tincture here I come!

time savings and no mess are the 2 big selling points for me. after initial setup (@ 10-15min) each batch only takes @ 10min. so maybe an hour for all 3 runs :) cleanup takes maybe 15-20min, I usually just dumped water into the bucket of leftovers and let the CO2 fill the room

Only problem with saving trim is that it counts against your weight. I know someone who was raided and he would have been fine except for the 2 pounds of trim he had. That 2lbs so far has cost him about $13,000 in Attorney fees and he still is fighting the charges.

Excellent point! That's exactly why I don't like keeping the trim around for too long. If the dry ice method works out I'll probably have my trim converted to hash before the buds even dry on future harvests.

This is a really good idea i think, could take out the time consuming part of bubble by cutting down the plant matter by 99%..... I may very well try this myself, i have really been craving some bubble but the bowl of trim i have hardly justifies the work.....

Correct. And why risk having trim sitting around getting freezer burn and stinking up your frozen vegetables or ice cream? At first my spouse thought the broccoilli was smelly and I had to take immediate action. About $3.24 worth of dry ice and small amount of time and voila! Instant medibles ingredients. :)

Thanks again MacGuyver for getting me motivated to clean up that trim. I just finished up and it took less time to do 3 batches with dry ice than a single batch of ice water hash takes. The clean up is much simpler too - just one bag, a tray and a can to clean.

I ran everything through my 160 micron bag and it is beautiful medible material. I've got enough to make about 5 ounces of tincture. So stoked! This is definitely the new method for me.

It's hard to find dry ice in my town as well. I googled it on the yellow pages or something and found Airco (bottled gas) a dry cleaner and a meat market had it.
Bought some at the market and it was $6.99 per pound!
Sorta like a brick of frost, it wasnt solid at all. I won't buy it there again.
