How close you keep your lights

I have 3 huge CFL's 105 Watts each.
one 30K Spiral
one 41K Spiral
one 50K Tube style bulb
All three in a 3x3 tent with good air flow in and out.

The closest I can get these lights to the planter top (nothing planted yet) is about 7" before the temp gets very hot (the tent room temp is normal). Iam worried that is to far and when I plant the seeds they will come up all skinny and weak. So how close is to close with these huge CFL's? I have read about the normal CFL bulbs getting within 1" - 2", i would like to know about these huge bulbs Thank you.

my bad, do you have a fan? i can hold my bulbs in my hand while they're on and they don't burn me.

Give it a few inches at least. I was trying to put my CFL's right up next to my girls but it was counter productive. Giving them a few inches of clearance lowered the temps more than it reduced the intensity of the light.

I kept my T5 about 2 inches away when i was using it, and I have my 400 HPS about 10 inches away right now. the plants dont burn b/c i air cool the hood and keep cool air blasting them constantly

i have a 125w bulb that i keep 1-2 inches away from the top of my plant she is doing good. you just have to make sure they don't grow into the bulbkeep them 1-3 inches above your plants you should be good to grow. gl on your grow. what strain you going to grow?
