Yh most likely but a couple of thing i would do ....
1. use reflective paper or something to reflect all the light on the other sides of the bulbs
2. put them out evenly
3. use a smallish box
4. keep the cfls 4-5 inch's away no more coz it just fucks the plant up
5. use a cpu fan as the air flow is great and aim at the plant away from the bulb

my plants still seem to be doing good, they both have about 6 leaves now and are just started new ones in the center, about how long should I be waiting before I want to start giving them small amounts of nutes?

where do people get this from?? a watt is a watt it dosent matter if its cfls, hids, your tv or your fridge.

i know how much my bill is and how much i am paying.
my mate has a 400w 2 fans and his bill is fat like (60 pound a month uk pound)so$120 bucks per a month.
and mine aint even 25 pound a month

yeah, but what else is he running in his house besides his HID lights?

THAT is where the extra $$$ on his bill is coming from.

Compare your electricity bills, I GUARANTEE you he has more KILOWATT HOURS of electricity used. That is, if they charge you the same way the power companies in the states charge us yanks.

Seriously though, here are just a few things that could affect his bill to be larger:

air conditioner (window type) 1,500w
space heater (inside plug-in type) 1,000-1,500w
dehumidifier - 750-1,500w

etc, etc.

do you see why your power bills may differ, even with the same wattages in your grow room.

YOUR GROW ROOM IS NOT THE SOLE CONSUMER OF ELECTRICITY IN YOUR HOUSE.

That should clear things up.

little update, the plants seem to be doing quite well. I can see a bunch of little leaves starting to grow out from where the original 4 are. I also rigged up a crappy little system so I can at least raise and lower all my lights at once instead of having them on 3 strings.
