For vegging you should be using ALL 'daylight' or 'cool white': 6500k

Using a warm white (2700k) will induce stretching and most of it's wavelength wont be used.

For flowering you want mostly red light with a few blue here and there. Say a 4:1 ratio

Red bulbs are labled as 'warm white'

If you look closely on the packaging you can find their Kelvin rating. For red bulbs the rating is 2700K. For blue bulbs it is 6500K (labled as 'cool white' or 'daylight')

Yes, when you flower you change all your bulbs from blue to red. SO for flowering you want all 2700k (maybe a few blue ones)

For vegetation don't just get all bright white bulbs. Sometimes mixing up the spectrum will help this particular cycle. Try doing a 10 to 3 ratio?

I'm currently using a 50-50 approach. 4 softs and 4 daylights.

As for flowering, yes, use all red spectrumed bulbs or soft whites.

Although i'm using a 400w HPS for flowering, I'm using CFL's for my veg cycle and i was looking for the 42w 6500k's. i checked all the walmarts in my area and they're all out of the 42w daylights (6500k). On a whim, i was bought six 30w 5000k cfl's somewhere else for a decent price, but i know 6500k is the best.
I'm really shooting for small, tight plants.
Would i be ok if i mixed in some 42w 6500k's with these 5000k's or should i scrap the 5000k's all together and just go get 6500k's?
thanks
