Cfl Proximity To Foliage

I can not emphasize enough the importance for LIGHT proximity to the PLANT.

IF You want a big harvest using CFLS.. there should be a CFL within 1 inch of EVERY piece of exterior foliage of the plant!!

A perfect light set up would present every leaf on the plant with a CFL BULB 1 inch or less from the LEAF...

ONE 43 watt bulb may provide this type of coverage for 8 leaves.

Of course, this may be impossible... but it is the ideal situation...

Lights should surround the plant... they should not just be from the TOP...

of course there are exceptions...

does that make more sense?

see how the CFLs are on the top and all the sides of the plant...

IT IS STILL NOT PERFECT - not even close.. the plants on the far right need at least 1 more CFL...

these lights are great at 1 inch... but beyond 1 inch they start LOOSING lumens.... it is important to give the leaves as much light as possible.. ALL THE LEAVES... low branches, side branches, top branches.. etc

this is another reason it is important to flower early... when using CFLS...

it is not practical to grow big plants with CFLS because it could easily take 40 CFLs to cover a 5 foot pant... LOL

Thanks for elaborating and for the pic, very cool, I agree, closer the light and more surrounding is better, you're most certainly correct about the size of plants, I have learned that on a first hand basis....

Not a good idea to grow large plants, no matter how much cfl light you may have...

Good to know, atm my plant is 4 feet tall or so, first attempt didnt top them and veged for longer then i should have. There are some pics in this forum somewhere dont know how to link other threads.

so basically you want so many fucking cfls that you realize you just spent enough money on cfls that you could have had a 600hps and had 4x the useful light as you have now.

yes!!! sort of...

But this does not rule out, that CFLS can be great lights.. especially for small spaces, beginners, clones, small grows, hobbiest, people who don't want to go to the hydro shop and many more reasons...

cfls are cool

Hey Gk, do you use both lighting?, cfls and hps that is, and have you personaly done any experiments or made any observations of the buds grown from both lights? A little off topic but im reall curious about the subject.
