Ok so im planning on setting up shop with some high spectrum cfl's combined watt around 400-500 and then switch it up to low spectrum for flower. My question is, do I need to build a contained box/room/tent or can I just put plants under light and be good to go? You know like in a big walk in closet type of deal, with some fans goin?
also where should I position the lights for optimum growth? I know they say 2 inches but I mean should all lights be on top or some on top some on sides? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

i grow mine in a closet but you gotta make sure that there is something reflective around the plants... like a white wall or some mylar etc... and about the lights i would put them around the plant... just so you can get constant light on all sides of the plant(s)... Good luck

You want to try to take advantage of what reflected light you can, white paint is the best. Also ideally you would direct all the lumens onto the grow area, but you can't do that. You do the best you can with hoods and reflectors. You can put cfls as close as 2 inches from plants with some growth, but further back for young seedlings. I think you are better off with smaller cfls, 23w and 42w, than the huge ones. Just overhead light is often enough for veg unless plants get pretty tall, but for sure in flower you want to get them on the sides as well. 70% 6500k in veg, 70% 2700k in flower.

awesome, thanks for the responses, what do you mean by 70%, 70% i get the 6500k for veg and 2500k for flower. but i dont get what you mean with the 70%.
also if using smaller watt lights is better then how many watts would you reccomend per plant? and is it because bigger watt in single bulb loses lumens? |

he means the ratio between 6500k and 2700k lights during each grow cycle...you want 70% 6500k and 30% 2700k during veg and 70% 2700k and 30% 6500k for flower...42watt cfls put out plenty of lumens...and 4 42watts per plant would suffice depending on size you want
