hey... new here and lovin it. 3 weeks into my first grow. read so many different posts i'm still not sure if i should be veging with daylight cfl's only or if i should mix with reds. started with one 6500k cfl over each plant. now, just purchased an adapter and added one 6500k and one 2700k cfl over each plant. anyone tell me which is best for veging? thank you in advance.

Around 70% 6500k for veg and then 70% 2700k for flower. A mix is always good.

i think what smile meant to say was 70 blue and 30 red.
i would personally go more like 80-20, but providing a fuller spectrum is always better..!

50/50 is where i'm at now and with my setup its either 100% blue or 50/50 (only 2 bulbs per plant.) i had them going 24/0 until a couple of days ago. read in a post that some dark is better. so i started backing them down an hour a day. 1st day one hour of darkness, second day 2, ... and so on until i get to 18/6. is this a good idea or should i keep them at 24/0?

You do not need to do 18/6 you can do 24/0. Some say they notice more "growth" when they let their plants receive a dark cycle. In fact they do grow. Stem growth to be exact which is if what your looking for then that is fine. 24/0 will keep the plant vegging for 24hrs. While the plant will not be as "tall" as a plant that has been exposed to 18/6, it will given the similar conditions, have more bushy growth.

This is optimum for me as I'm doing a closet grow and cannot have tree like plants but still yield nicely. As in Ed Rosenthal's book he states "plants under 24/0 of light have 33% more growth than those on a 18/6 light cycle."
