Hello everyone,
I've decided to make somewhat of a journal for my first grow, I hope that by doing this people can give me insight on things and enjoy what I post and do.

Anything that you suggest is very welcome!

I've always been intrigued by plants and how things grow, so here we go.


These are freshly planted, they have been in here for maybe two days with one watering, I will be watering again soon.


I only have one fixture up at the moment but I have 4 more CFL's that I will be adding later. The tubes are 6500k Daylight.


This is the table that I'm using, It has an area underneath where I may add some stuff in later, I'm not sure what yet though.


In the top right and left are the only vents in the room, I want to have air coming in through the right and air exiting through the left vent.


Jars and stuff for later.


- I am not done with the room, I have to put boards up to cover insulation and etc, but I will post more pictures of that later.

Hi there Nolan, I just wanted to comment on your set up I understand your not finished you you may have planned on doing this already but I had a few things in mind to help you on your way to good growth.

1. Make sure you use a good disinfectant in the room and try to clean everything!!! This help protect you and your crop from mold, bugs, fungi, and disease.
2. The air: If you are useing fans for the air to come in and out in a specific direction Make sure you also have a way to make the fresh air go strait to the floor and try to have the exhaust being drown out of the room in the highest point to take all hold air out. Also keep a rotating fan in the room to keep air moving.
3. Lights: I see you have the 6500k tubes (thats good) but also try to get some 2700k as well to balance the light spectrum. Also try to keep the light on chains and away from the plants buy 3-4 inches. This will be close enough to get good light but not too close to burn the babys.
4. Water, dont water every day. If you already have water in the cups do not water till they sprout. Even then dont water till th soil starts to get dry.
5. Dranage, make sure you got some holes in the bottom of those cups for the extra water to drain out (thats very important).
6. Becuase your using soil make sure its not simple soil from outside out of the ground. Only because its to think. If you do use it add some building sand (because its ph nutraul) or some perlight for good airation and dranage.
7. fertilizer, because your using soil a good fertilizer would be worm castings. Mj loves worm castings. Also find a good fertilizer to mike with your water 20-20-20 is a good one for growth. But dont fertilize every time you water because this will be to much fertilizer salt left in your grow medium and will stop the plant from taking up the life giving nutes.

Ok I know I have said alot but I'm sure I left plenty out ...lol.

Looks like a nice setup when you get it all cleaned up!

I also grow in a dark basement and works gr8 for me Hope you get more than that 1 light though, MJ loves as much light as she can get and floro's are not gonna cut it when it comes time to flower.

I was going to say the lights could come down closer. Also - lots of jars! Good optimism!

Here are some sprouts, and some changes in lighting. I still haven't figured out exactly where I'm going to place everything.. But I will be getting some zip ties and other things to help out with that.

So I woke up at nine-ish, and decided I'd check on my plants, when i'm not around for a period of time they seem to want to go towards the fluorescents, so I turn them 180 degrees.
Almost every single plant has sprouted now, and I'm going to try and get ahold of a couple more fluorescent light fixtures so I can give them all proper light.
Also, I ordered a moisture meter online since I couldn't find a cheap one at Home Depot or any other local place.
Anyways, I'm happy!
Remember I'm always open to listen to advice, and thank you to everyone who has given me advice.

Also, I forgot to mention earlier, I'm running the lights 24/7.

Hey Nolan, got a couple of background questions. What kind of seed u growing? What soil are you using? U using cfls for flowering 2?

I got the seeds from my uncle who used to grow, he was telling me how they grew and I believe he said some of them were a cross between "maui" and something else, and the others were good too, but I don't know the exact strains. I guess we will all find out

I'm using Black Gold All Purpose potting soil at the moment, and i'm open to suggestions on what I should switch to later (as well as nutrients etc.)

If I can get my hands on an HPS in a couple of months then I may add those in.. but I don't really see that happening this time around. I think I will just be switching my lights to 2700k's.
