Default 1000w cfl wa u think?
hi 2 all u cfl lovers im hoping u will welcome me 2 ya crew,, i am usually a hps grower but due 2 constant battles with heat, and the now available 1000w cfl im gunna swap 4 my next grow. i have purchased this set up wit 3 6400k and 1 2700k for veg stage and i plan to reverse that for flowering. here is the link to the website .http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/ENVIRO...__W0QQ_armrsZ1 there is also lots of good info on the p.a.r of these lights and the advantage over hps due 2 hps having only 15% p.a.r and the rest is infra red heat etc etc which u all mite like to read also how lumens is irrelevant to plant growth as lumens is the amount of light seen by the human eye and p.a.r is wat is important as that is wat the plant absorbs anyways any tips frm u growers of the cfl styleeee would be appreciated

well this is an awkward one to answer! apparently 1 watt = 64 lumens so 1000w = 64,000 lumens 64,000 lumens x 4 = 256,000 lumens however, aparrently it is not the lumens that are importnat, lumens is the measurement for the amount of light your eye can see.. wat we need is the p.a.r which is wat the measurement is for wat the plant can see or absorb to make photosynthesis happen.. cfls are higher in this band than hps due to hps having more variables of the colour spectrum, some of which the plnts dont use... i will be running the 1000w with 3 plants in a 1m2 area never grown wit cfls before so we will see how it goes,, have heard of fluffy buds being a prob wit cfls so im hoping the overkill for 3 plants will help the buds get denser

Why go overkill? Use like 600 watts or something. 1000 is just ridiculous. It's not like 1000 watts of CFL will be easier to keep cool than HPS, it will still get hot.

!'ll be watching because I am curious to see what would happen, but it sounds crazy to me.

peace

There's no way a 1000 watt cfl gets as hot as the equivalent watt hps and you never can have too much light! One of the main reason for using cfls to begin with is to have better control of temps.

Hey all, i purchased some of these with the reflectors in the link above and i would say dont buy them, the reflectors have a mirror finish which causes major heat problems, i have just binned my reflectors.. Hope this helps,
P.s im now running 500watts daylight and 120 watts warm. ladies are loving it..

You can have too much light. It's called wasting energy, and I assure you it's quite possible.

Have you grown with 1000 watts of HPS and CFL before Cap K? I really doubt you have.

I've heard of people replacing 300 watts of CFls, with a 250 watt HPS system, and their grow room dropped by 5 degrees.
Just because one CFL bulb is cooler than HPS, doesn't mean they dont add up. If you use like 12 + CFL bulbs, it's going to start getting pretty hot.
