That's one thing I learned for my next grow. I originally had one 26W on the plant 24/0 which was at least a good 2-3 feet away from the plant. Since signing up here & looking at info I've found out this is exactly what not to do lol. Next grow will have the lights much closer to the plant!

ya a 42 watter could be good for the top, but just adding another 20 or 26 watt light would be the same if not better. Your plant is F-ing lanky bra! Is that a Sativa??? If that's an indica it's trying to stretch because there's no light at the bottom. It's like your pulling the sun further and further away, and the plant is trying to reach up to it. Buy a few more reflectors and and even 13 watt bulbs to place down on those lower buds. You'll recoup the extra cash in more bud, and next time your plant wont stretch to the moon and back.

can't speak to the 42w that much, been using 26w in my grow, but here a latest stat on ge bulbs
the ge 42w list its initial lumens as 2700 for about 64 lumens per watt
the newer 26w ge cfl's are listing the initial lumens as 1750 lumens for about 67 lumens per watt
not a big difference, but when you consider how much cheaper 26w bulbs are, and they are a bit brighter per watt, it does make them pretty attractive for the economy micro grower

Ya I've been wondering about that too, I used 42 watters last grown and got pretty good results. Although i heard 26 watts is more efficient so I'm trying more of those instead this time. The only thing I really like about the 42 watters is they seem to penetrate the plant's leaves more, maybe giving them more energy. Also the range of useful light went further I though, about 4-8 inches being a good distance where 20-26 watters are more effective at about 2-4 inches away. I think the best is people who agree, use a 42 watt on top then use lower watters for side lighting. If you use too many 42 watters you need lots of fan-action because they do get hot, but are still cool compare to my 130 watt CFL with added red. You can see I use, and experiment with all these bulbs I talked about, including repti-glo bulbs. Also I do take light readings with my light meter. Check out my grow CFL Wrap Around and I would like to continue this discussion as nobody seems to know for sure, just what is better.

i suspect this debate will go on quite some time
it's tough to compare at times since there are often so many other varying factors
Dr.RR's grow is an exhibit for the 26w case, pretty nice plant

Why did get so long though?

he did mention that he was keeping the cfl's a bit too far from the plant, introduced some stretch
was a lesson learned, and he mentioned that he would put the cfl's closer next time

Do you think stretching would stress the plant much. I know I like a little stretch in my plants as it really opens up the middle buds, then I can tuck the plants right next tome my long 130 watt CFL, and really try and expand those buds that usually don't get enough light. But now I see these people just cutting off all their pop-corn buds and just growing the main stems, and they seem to get way better results than me, so now I'm kinda rethinking my method. I have a bit of a crazy question about fetrilizers, maybe Growone or anybody could you could visit my site CFL Wrap Around. It's about organic fertilizers.
