Default CFL Grow Help

Hey everybody,

I plan on getting my first grow up and going soon, and was planning on using CFLs for it.

The dimensions for the cabinet I'm using are 60"Hx30"Wx16"D.

I will be eventually dedicating the lower 20" of the cabinet to a veg/clone area, and am planning on using 4x23W CFLs for that part.

Now onto the flowering area.

I plan on covering the inside with some emergency blanket in order to increase the reflectiveness of cabinet, but I was wondering if people could give me some help on how many CFLs I should use for the flowering area. I would prefer using the smaller CFLs so I would hopefully not have to vent the cabinet, but if I need to, it's not that big of a deal.

If it's of any help to anyone, I calculated the square footage of the cabinet and would need 22,750-32,500 lumens based on the figure 7k-10k lumens per square foot.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

u answered your own question....its up to you to decide what lights to use. just divide the lumens u need with the lumens of the bulbs u wanna use. ie-if i wanted 40,000 lumens i could use 15 2700 lumen output or 23 1800 lumen output bulbs

I'm running 388w of CFL in a closet and it's fine as long as I crack the door while the lights are on. I'de recommend the higher wattage CFLs to keep the ehat down - they are actually alot cooler both to the touch and in overall heat per lumen emitted. I've got a pretty simple but effective CFL grow going, feel free to stop by and take a look.

i agree especially with CFls because they tend to make it hot if you have enough and you want a lot.. i'm using 6 23w for 1 plant..you should check my grow out its in my signature

I figured I might as well vent anyways, so I'll just get a computer fan hooked up to it and put a few intake holes in it.

Also, I think I'm going to use the SOG method, as I would prefer smaller, quicker harvests, rather than large, slow ones.

Gastanker and bighitter, I love checking out grows and I'll definitely stop by and check yours out.

best bet for cfl flower is the 42w 2700k bulb. your plants will want fresh air. and cfl's wiil heat your cab up pretty fast. your cab size is small and I think you'll be less then happy with what you produce vs time it takes. lol I want the 1lb plant so I stop running out between harvests.
