Default light cycle question

im going to put my plants on a 12/12 cycle tommorw but before that should i just step down from 18 to 16 to 14 to 12 or can i just put them into 12..

on that note i have a friend who says i should put them in the dark for 2 days before i put them to 12/12 and im wondering if that would help the plants flower or would it just stress the plants

Just drop them to 12/12 no need to teeter the time down. Don't put them in the dark a few days, just switch to 12/12 and there will be bud soon enough
