If I put a glass cover over a cfl light will it cut down on what the plant gets ? My grow is in a trash can and I leave it for a week some times. Plants grow up and touch the lights and I loose half of some leaves. last time one grew 3 inchs or more in the week, one side had burnt leaves.

I thought I would just use a jar, cut a hole in the cover, place light end though then screw jar on. The jar would be hanging off the light.

It would work as long as your plants have air circulation. What are you going to do when you flower? The plants will double in height.

You could use uh... clear 2 liter bottles(maybe make some vents). Glass jars and fragile bulbs(with mercury in uhm)... sounds somewhat risky.
