These are the long 22" twin T4 tube plug-in CFLs.

Ordered a couple ballasts/sockets/bulbs and designing the cab right now. I'm just wondering from someone who has actually grown with these how hot they get when they run?

I have heard varrying reports from them being cool enough to let your foliage nearly touch it, too them getting hot enough they need to be inches away, just looking for a clear answer from someone whos actually used these.

Fluorescent bulbs work better when they are close to the plants. You can keep them up to an inch away from the plants, it depends on how often you want to be adjusting your lights, and if you have your heat issues under control.
