Default question with high watt cfls
im going to order cfl 6x 85 watt 6500K, 5,000 lumen output per bulb. i understand these are best for vegging but what are the consequences of using these for flowering instead of some 2700k-3000k cfls..and am i better off just buying a 250 watt hps instead of spending money on that

my friend, ahhh.... where do i begin... lol
basically, 2700k is better for flowering but you should mix the spectrum up because it'll give a more uniform light similar to outdoors. If you wana to buy an HPS, you have to consider heat problems which means ventilation. With CFL's you need less ventilation to keep everything cool.

If you can afford it, HPS is always better. If your grow space is big enough for 510 watts of CFL heat, then I would go ahead and get a 400 watt HPS.

HTG sells one for $120, good for 50,000 lumens. The raw intensity will make up for any lack of spectrum.

If your growing in a grow box, closet, or any confined space heat will be your biggest concern. With CFL's you can always remove a bulb or two to bring the temperature down, HPS you need to be sure you can handle that wattage.

2700k induces flowering sooner, and mixed with 6500k promotes bushier & tighter growth. Solely 6500k encourages all growth, and your plants will not flower as quickly, but they'll be larger.

A 400watt HPS puts out waaaaaaay more heat then 510 watts of CFL, you will need a lot more ventilation, thats why im returning my 400watt HPS.
