Default poping and hissing when I smoke it?

I recently came across a large amount of harsh green which pops and hisses when i smoke it. The green thumb said that they think it was due to tap water. I was thinking maybee they dident flush the nutrients and used the wrong ones also. Has anyone had a batch turn out like this and know why
